Ok so I'm A beginner trying to pick a DSLR camera to start with. I'm hoping to learn photography, because it really iterests me.
But like i said i'm new. Really new.
I'm looking for DSLR cameras from Nikon/Canon with goot image quality and for begginers.

What would be a good DSLR for a teen seeking a photography degree?
I currently use my high school's yearbook camera, an Olympus E500, but I hate it. The controls are confusing and the manual settings stink. I want a better camera, a Nikon or Canon, one that I can use in college. Preferably in a student's price range? Help?
Added (1). I DO know manual settings. This camera just has the settings in weird places, making them hard to change. It took me months to figure out how to change shutter speed. But I do know how to use ISO, aperture, shutterspeed, etc.
Can i trade my camera for a new one?

How do I, literally, take a good self-portrait?
I'm trying to get senior pictures done. The problem is I have a Nikon camera that only I seem to know how to use. I put portrait lens on it to make it easier for my mom and my brothers so they could do it properly. Just point, focus, and shoot. But somehow, they can't even do that right.
My dad is great at photography though, but unfortunately he's gone for a few months and I have a deadline, ugh.
I feel like my only option is to do it myself. I've done it before with other cameras and such, but this is a portrait lens so it makes it more difficult for me. I don't have a tripod, either. I could use normal lens and probably add a soft focus around me on a photo editor, but I don't really want to.
Any tips?
Nikon Built-in Speedlight Problem?
I have a Nikon F55-D Film SLR camera. The built-in speedlight was working fine until recently. Since yesterday, it is not popping out, no matter what mode I try, even on pressing the flash button. I believe that there might be a problem with the release mechanism. Could something be done to set it right (at home)?

I just bought this camera the other day from B&H. I worked fine so i took it home and now when i press the shutter release button the mirror flips up, and because of that the viewfinder stays black and the picture is never taken. Also the advance-film lever isn't working, like its locked in place. I have a battery and film in the camera, i've tried settings on manual and automatic, i have NO money to get it repaired, and B&H is closed until tuesday. The problem is that my photoshoot is due on monday, can someone please help me out? Quick fix? Anything?

It seems there are quite a few brands out there to choose from and I don't know which to pick!
Nikon and Canon. These seem to be quite Common. But then again a lot of professionals also use Sony. What is your opinion?
Are Quantaray lenses really bad lenses?
I'm going to buy a camera online and it has a really good price so I thought it was just the body but it includes a Quantaray lens for nikon should I buy a good lens or is this an OK lens?

I usually take pictures of myself with friends or with family.
This is what i want in a camera:
-Sleek/compact/light weight
-Takes non blurry pictures
-It can be touchscreen, doesn't matter
-some cool effects would be nice
-uses SD cards
-Under $200
-Etc.
Any brands are fine btw. I already have a Nikon s4000 and I don't really like it just so you know. I want a new camera that just came out this year. Please and thank you.
