Can the Nikon D3100 charge through the computer?

How does the Nikon D3100 charge? Is it able to charge through the computer? In Australia does it come with an appropriate wall charger (Australian wall charger) or does it have to be brought separate?

Also… How does it load pictures onto the computer if the battery is not in it.

Buying this camera tomorrow and would love to know.

I don't think so.

To load pictures onto your computer you need to insert the memory in.

The camera can't be charged via a usb cable. The usb cable is for file transferring. You have to make sure the battery charged before connecting it to the computer because you have to turn the camera on to do the file transfer.

No.

You charge it by taking off the battery, plugging the battery to the charger, then plugging the charger to the wall socket. If you see how huge that battery is, you'll understand why it can't charge through USB. As a matter of fact, plugging the D3100 by USB to the computer drains the battery. File transfers do eat up power too.

While some Nikon compacts can indeed be charged via USB, the D3100 can't as the battery is too high of a capacity and exceeds the capacity of a USB port to deliver enough power to charge it.

The good news is that the D3100 battery will last a lot longer than a compact camera battery.

Also, this is a characteristic of all DSLRs. None of them - regardless of brand or model - can be charged via USB due to their high-power batteries.

As mentioned, you are buying an advanced dSLR and their batteries are charged using the battery charger that comes with the camera

The way you copy images from the memory card to your computer is best done, using the card reader on your computer. You will remove the memory card from your camera and insert it into the card reader. Once all the images are copied to your computer, you will need to format the card using the format feature on your camera.

Do this at the end of each shooting day.

Read the manual! No camera charges through the computer. Your need a separate battery charger and separate rechargeable batteries. Think about it would it be easier to carry extra of batteries And a small charger or to carry your camera and computer everywhere you go to take pictures.

Oh sorry you don't own the camera yet! Well read the manual about 3 times and these questions will not bother you as you will see how simple the situation is and can devote your time to taking photographs.

No. If it's new it will come with a wall charger. The Nikon charger will work anywhere in the world. Most of us use the computers built in card reader or a USB card reader.
