Essilor vs Carl Zeiss which one is better?

This is a 3 part question I have high astigmatism, the cylindrical component of my prescription is about 4.5 & 5.so I'm thinking I will need high index 1.67 lenses (single vision regular glasses). But I've heard chromatic aberration is an issue in high index's & the necessity for anti glare coating?
1.so what do you guys recommend polycarbonate lenses or high index (I know its thinner & lighter)
for high astigmatism?
2. I know AR coating is recommended for my prescription. So is there any big difference between zeiss coating, crizal alize (recent crizal forte: considered the best) & platinum no glare (offered in SAM's Club)
3. Which company makes the best lenses essilor or carl zeiss. For 1.67 lenses which company's lenses has the highest abbe number (optical quality: higher the better) I know there are other players in the market such as hoya, nikon, seiko & pentax. But I assume zeiss, hoya & essilor are the major players?

Ok, being as you just need single vision lenses, you are over-thinking the whole thing.

Your prescription with that high cyl will be out of the " stock lens" range, so that eliminates several of those brands to start with, including Zeiss. Your lenses have to be ground from scratch, and Zeiss, or Hoya, or Seiko or Pentax don't supply blanks for that. They just do stock lenses and progressives.

You definitely want 1.67 with a good anti reflection coating, but as far as the lens quality goes, they are all the same in single vision. Don't even consider Polycarb in a power over - 3.00 sphere though.

The Essilor coating Crizal Forte, is a good one, but not extra-ordinary, it is difficult to clean.

Just about all labs offer a premium anti reflection coating now that rivals anything Nikon or anyone else has… And usually a better warranty also.

Places like Sam's Club don't count if you are looking for premium coatings. Places ( Optometrist offices, Optical stores ) that use large independent labs will have it available. None of the chains can offer top of the line coatings on lenses out of the stock range.

So, don't worry about brand names with single vision lenses, and don't let chain stores convince you they carry the top quality… They don't… None of them do.

You seem to be quite informed about some parts of optics, so I suggest you search out an independent optician who can discuss this all with you again, then offer you the best available.
