Shutter counts in nikon and canon slrs?

Right,
i'm looking into buying a second hand camera and i've found a canon eos 40d which has a shutter count of under 15k and i've also come across a nikon d300 with a shutter count of 6200.

are these good? Which one should i go for? Is the lower hutter count the better when buying second hand?

How much should I be paying for this used dslr camera?

I may possibly be buying a camera from some family friends. It is a nikon d100 and they bought it in 2004. A lens is not included, they are keeping the one that they have to put on their new camera, but they are including an attatchable flash, not sure what kind or the quality of it. There are no problems with it, they just want a new camera. They haven't named a price yet and I'm trying to get a feel for what they might be asking. Any ideas from experienced camera users?

Camera comparison help? - 1

I'm a current Nikon user but have explored switching to a Canon, what are the Canon models that would closely compare to either the D700 or D300s.

What lenses for my D700?

I've done a fair amount of research, but too much information has proved a bit detrimental. I'm a uni student so I don't have a big budget - but I also don't want a rubbish lens (for example, the AF-s Nikkor 55-200 DX proved to be pretty naff with my D60). I already have a micro-nikkor 55mm, but I would like a lens with autofocus. I mostly do portrait/fashion work. Would love to hear some suggestions.

Added (1). Ps. When I say I don't have a big budget - I mean I can't go over £300! I don't mind buying second hand tho.

How to post-process images like this?

I stumbled across a beautiful photo stream on flikr. The photographers name is Ed McGowan (screen name: isayx3) and he seems to only use a Nikon d3 in most of his images but his photos are amazing, they have a vintage film kind of effect to them and I was wondering how he achieves such nicely coloured photos.

I'm looking to upgrade my current DSLR?

I currently have a Nikon D70 6.2 mp, and want to upgrade. I wish to stay in the Nikon family, and have been leaning towards a d700. I'm not sure my skill level requires that much camera, but it's on my wish list. Any advice for an upgrade. I'm a hobby photographer that would eventually like to take it to the next level.

How to take great fog photos?

There's only a few special days here in Washington state, when the fog looks magical to the human eye--everything seems to disappear in a fade, but the close objects are still clear. But when I take the photos with the camera, it comes out flat and dull… I want a shot like this: How to take great fog photos but for example, whenever I try, the near tree, is also in a haze and doesn't "pop" like in most pro images of fog

Do you guys have any tips for me to take great fog shots? Like what ISO for example? I Have a Nikon D200 w/ 18-55mm and 70-300mm
