Is it bad to have both a Canon & Nikon?

I'm looking to get a Canon camera (the t2i/550D) as my first DSLR. I found a great reputable store that sells it for a deal on ebay and I'm eager to get it.

However, we also have a Nikon (D300) in the family with 5 Nikon Nikkor lenses. Although most people consider it a disadvantage to have two brands in the family, I'm thinking it might be okay if not good. For example, if I need to take a macro shot I can simply use the whole camera body. Having the two largest camera brands opens you up to nearly the entire lens market. There's practically no lens that you can't purchase if you have both.

What do you think? What about adapters? I've read online that they sell adapters that allow you to use G-mount Nikkor lenses on a Canon EOS body. Are these okay? Do they reduce image quality/functionality?

Added (1). I will NOT buy additional lenses. I will not purchase an extra telephoto lens that is similar to a Nikon one I already have.

When I need to use those lenses I will simply use the entire Nikon body.

How to get the photos off my D700?

I struck lucky this christmas! I received a brand new Nikon D700 under the tree, and all during today (25th) i was snapping away. Now it has come to the end of the day i want to pick out the best photos and edit them in photoshop on my computer. So i went to the d700 box and got out the provided USB cable, plugged it in, and opened Adobe Bridge on my computer. I went to my computer and clicked on d700, and there was no files! I tried to use windows explorer and tried using the "importing photos" windows wizard, but all failed. I haven't got a CF card reader and i want to go out and take photos of the family tomorrow, but i have almost filled up the memory card.

Christmas Photo Camera Settings Nikon D700?

I plan to take loads of photos throughout Christmas day including presents being opened, Restaurant lunch and then wherever we end up. I will be using a Nikon D700 along with a 24-120mm lens. Could anyone recommend settings that would be appropriate throughout the day? ISO, WB setting, aperture and shutter speed. Appreciate that this is not the ideal camera for a relative beginner.

Really appreciate any helpf, tips or advice.

Would this equipment be good for sports photography?

I have a Nikon D3s and am shopping for a new lens. Would my camera and a AF-S NIKKOR
70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II lens w/ a 2x teleconverter be a good match up to do sports (mainly horse jumping) photography? I wouldn't use the teleconverter all the time, only when I shoot at stadiums. Let me know, Thanks!

Added (1). Caoedhen: I was thinking about the 80-400 VR, but it does not have very good reviews and I heard that it was very slow. Rumor is that they are coming out with a new 80-400mm in 2011, so I'll look in to that when it comes out.

What should I name an album about photography on Facebook?

I've just gotten a new camera- nikon d200.So i've taken quite a few pictures of the camera, my christmas tree (the bulbs) myself (in the mirror)… And I would like to put them on Facebook. I need help choosing a name.
I know that most facebookers become very unimaginative about naming their albums. Most people have; My Family, Me, My Friends, and Random. My albums have a bit more creativity in them; thanks for the memories (friends), moii. (self portraits), come on let your colours burst (randoms). So now I need a new name. Please, no suggestions such as 'first few shots', 'got a new camera', 'nikon d200' or something along those lines.

Thinking about upgrading to Nikon D90, D700, or D300?

I have been shooting a D60 for 2 years & am wanting to (finally) upgrade. I'm looking at the D90, D300, D700 as far as upgrading, but I'm just not sure which is the best option. I'm mostly a wedding photographer but I'm looking at doing more studio work soon.

I would love any direction (except switch to canon comments) thanks!
