Is the Nikon D300 still a good camera in 2012?

Just wondered if it is still a good camera even in 2012, thinking about getting one, as its very tough, (going to swaziland next year with world challenge) and has good specs, so is it still a good camera in 2012 and for the next couple of years.

Why will my DSLR not take pictures when my hotshoe flash is attached?

Nikon D300

Quantaray QTB-9500A flash. It works on my Nikon D80 but for some reason my D300 will not take photos when the flash is turned on.

I can't get my lens to focus on Nikon DSLR?

I have a Nikon D100 camera and a Nikon AF Nikkor. 70-300mm. 1:4-5.6G telephoto lens.between 70 and approx. 120mm the lens will focus both manually and automatically.once i get past 120mm the lens will no longer focus.
i have tried cleaning the contacts, changing the lighting, my distance from focal point, resetting the camera back to default all to no avail.
what can i do to get the camera to focus when zoomed past 120mm!

Lens compatibility- Nikon D300?

I have a Nikon D300 and I've been looking for a good light weight lens and I was wondering if Nikon Nikkor Lens - 35 mm - F/1.8 - Nikon F
is compatible. If not, can someone recommend one?

Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR on a Nikon D700?

I just moved to full frame with a D700 that I got on a great deal.

I already have a Nikon 50mm F/1.8D and a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 ED, which work on FX and will do great for low light and portraiting.

Now I have the chance to buy a Tamron 28-200 f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF online for $75. I think it could do as a wide and also all-around lens.

Has anyone tried this lens on a D700? Is it worth or should I just look for something else?

Any input will be appreciated.

Comparing some lenses, need some suggestions?

I want a decently quick lens with about a f/2.8 and roughly 18mm-200mm. I have a Nikon D300s and wanted a lens for multiple uses. I didn't want to pay over $1500, I'm unfortunately on a budget for this lens. I was looking at:

Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro AF Lens for Nikon AF
Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO OS HSM for Nikon

I've got a rough comparison from BH here:

I'm open to other suggestions though. I was just looking for some feedback to get a better idea of what exactly I was looking at getting.

Asked to be backup photographer

A friend just asked me to be a backup photographer for her wedding (she's asked another friend to be the main photographer). I have never been a wedding photographer before and my photography experience is pretty limited, I was wondering if anyone can help me with the basic equipment I need to at least be some use. My current equipment are:

Nikon D700
Nikon 20-35mm f2.8
Nikon 50mm f1.4d
Nikon 85mm f1.8d
Nikon 28-70mm f2.8
Nikon 80-200mm f2.8
Tokina 100mm Macro f2.8
Nikon 28-200mm f3.5-5.6G
Nikon SB-700 flash
Hoya CPL filter

I don't have a tripod or any colour changing filters, do I need any of those, and which lenses should I take along with me, do I need anything else. Please remember I'm only the backup photographer (I guess if the main photographer gets too drunk I'll step in LOL)

Nikon D3s vs the new D4?

Is it worth upgrading from the d3s to the d4? The only difference seems a few more megapixels and i like the d3s for it's great low light sensitivity cuz of low amount of pixels stretched out over a full frame sensor.

Switch Nikon to Canon? But I have so much equipment already?

I've noticed more and more people are moving from Nikon to Canon. I'm really into portrait photography and filmmaking as well. Canon has came out with a lot of new stuff. I heard Nikon is coming out with some new cameras this year, but they've only come out with the D800 so far. I kind of want to make the switch, but I already have a bunch of Nikon equipment! I have 3 lenses, and a flash and of course my camera. It would be so hard to sell all of it! What should I do?

Added (1). I just went to the NAB show convention in Las Vegas, and Canon had a giant set up with all of their new products and the 5D
