Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR on a Nikon D700?

I just moved to full frame with a D700 that I got on a great deal.
I already have a Nikon 50mm F/1.8D and a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 ED, which work on FX and will do great for low light and portraiting.
Now I have the chance to buy a Tamron 28-200 f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF online for $75. I think it could do as a wide and also all-around lens.
Has anyone tried this lens on a D700? Is it worth or should I just look for something else?
Any input will be appreciated.

Photography is all about give and take. You can't have it all, to get something, you have to give up something.
Skip the 28-200 lens. Sure it gives you a wide angle view, and nice reach with that 200mm on the other end, but you give up image quality. Lenses like this with a wide focal range are often poor performers. And to make matters worse, not only is the lens slower being a 3.5 to f/5.6 on the long end, but the actual light transmission (measured in t-stops) is worse as well.
This all around kind of lens would be better suited to someone with a cheap entry level dSLR on a vacation. A situation where top not image quality takes a back seat to convenience and no lens changes.
I tend to believe that anyone buying a Nikon D700 did so for the finest image quality within their budget. So for a wider view of the world, get a wider prime lens something between 20 and 30mm, especially for very low light, or a 24-70mm f/2.8. Yes it costs more, but that's generally the way things go. Don't cripple your camera with a 75 dollar lens.

Why look for an all-around lens when you already have it in the 50mm f/1.8? You already have a full-frame camera. Why spoil the fun with a super-zoom lens? IF you want wide, get a wide angle lens or something around 18-55mm? Sure you can use the 28-200mm but if you are after optimum picture quality, that's not what's recommended. The longer the zoom range, the poorer the optics.

Any of you self righteous brand obsessed 'photographers' ever try this lens? It may be a little slow but the image quality from wide to long and wide open to stopped down is relatively amazing. A great travel lens used by many skilled photographers. I use it on my D700 and impressed. Sure I have fast primes that work better for certain kinds of photography but for general use and even some near macro work this lens excels. So before you post clique comments you read somewhere else, try it before you try to sway someone with your uninformed drivel as you look foolish from those that have experience with this lens and life in general.

Gotta agree. The mentioned 28-200mm is a sleeper and gets great reviews from users. See Fred Miranda, etc.
