What Nikon D3100 DSLR lens with focus ring?
I just bought a nikon d3100 and I'm totally new to dslrs! It came with a kit lens that says 18-55mm lens. I thought I would be able to focus on people and have blurry backgrounds with the lens like in the black eyed peas video at around 54-57 seconds and 1:18-1:20 seconds how the camera focuses out and into Fergie.
look at the video to understand what I mean please! I have no idea why I can't do that with my 18-55mm lens. Can someone please tell me if it has to do with not having a focus ring? I can manually focus and auto focus with it. Also, what kind of lens would I need if I wanted to have that effect in the video?
Thanks! Lynne S.
Added (1). Hmm okay i'm going to look for a lens with a smaller/wider aperture that's not too expensive, thanks guys!

Is the Canon T3i Rebel (or the Nikon D5100) good for professional video?
I'm a videographer and I have used a lot of camcorders from the old SD GL2 and XL Canons, to the first HDV Sonys, and to the new memory card AVCHD Sony's. I'm thinking of buying a couple of DSLR cameras as well and since I'm new to the Hybrid DSLR features in a lot of these cameras that shoot FULL HD, I was wondering if these cameras are good for video. In other words are these the "cheap" models because I know of the higher end DSLR's like the 5D Mark II and I know the season finale of House was shot with that. But are these cameras as strong as camcorders in terms of durability, and quality?

How to take a long exposure night sky with the Nikon D3000?
Hi, could anyone give a step by step instruction on how to do this (set WB, focus, VR mode, etc.) to make it look the best for starry nights. I wish to take a long exposure shot of the night sky, maybe about 2-4 hours. Also, anyone know if this could damage the camera by taking such a long exposure?

Nikon D50. 6.1 mega pixels, but takes sharp pictures?
I saw it on amazon. It only has 6.1 MP and is like 2, 000 dollars. And it takes such good pictures.
I mean, 6 MP isn't good at picture taking, now why is this camera showing me pictures of amazing captures and very good detail?

Will a Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 autofocus and meter on the newest Nikon DSLR's?
I really want a lens that's of metal construction and has an aperture ring so that it can be compatible to both my Nikon F3 and my D7000. The reviews I've seen on this lens are great, but I've seen forums somewhere that some cameras won't meter or autofocus on some lenses. I know this is a manual focus lens, and I'm scared that the D7000 will "try" to autofocus this and damage something. Also, if this lens is fully manual, will my D7000 meter with it? Sorry if my questions sound stupid, but hey I'm genuinely concerned and I'm sure that there are simple answers out there.
If ever there will be a problem with this lens working on my D7000, I would really appreciate worthy alternatives for suggestion.

Do you need an SD card to use a Nikon D3000?
I have a Nikon D3000 and I was just wondering if there was anyway to shoot and store without an Sd card? Any help would be great. Is there a setting I can switch to or am I doomed?
