Does Nikon D5000 body has built in motor for Auto-focus?
Does Nikon D5000 body has built in motor for Auto-focus?
No so you will need an AF-S lens or 3rd party equivelant
Like all entry-level Nikon DSLRs, it does not have an autofocus motor.
Entry level (under $1, 000) are just that.
It is assumed that you being a new user, you will be buying new AF-S lenses for it. There are over 40 AF-S lenses covering the whole spectrum of focal lengths. The AF-S lenses are also the fastest focusing lenses Nikon makes, similar to the Canon USM lenses.
If you are trying to save money by purchasing the older Nikkor AF lenses, you will need to buy the more advanced Nikon camera bodies like the D7000 or better.
There are those who do manually focus lenses and for them, the lower cost bodies are not a problem
On the other hand, Canon EF-S lenses, made specifically for the Canon cropped sensor cameras, can't be used on any of the Canon full frame cameras like the 5D or 1D series cameras. They extend too far into the camera body and will scratch those mirrors and the mirrors will damage the rear elements of the lenses. There's no free lunch when it comes to buying entry level cameras from Nikon or entry level lenses from Canon.
