Do you need an SD card to use a Nikon D3000?

I have a Nikon D3000 and I was just wondering if there was anyway to shoot and store without an Sd card? Any help would be great. Is there a setting I can switch to or am I doomed?

Not effectively. Of course, all digital cameras take a memory card… Of course.

While some compact cameras do have internal memory, DSLRs generally do not - at least the D3000 does not, and I can't think of any that do.

Canon let you couple to your PC and save the files direct - can Nikon?

My goodness why are people never satisfied? With film cameras when I was young, process and print ran $4.00 for only 12 exposures. Prints were.25 cents each. Plus developing the film was about $1.25 Now with memory cards you do not have any film developing expense and prints are about, 13 cents each plus with digital/memory cards you can choose the ones you want. Instead of being forced to accept the whole roll whether good color or not, in focus or out of focus. So I guess you are doomed! You will just have to break the bank and buy a memory card, even if they are cheaper today than they were 6 months ago.

At less than $12 for a SD card, why don't you have a couple of them?

The memory card is what holds the images until you are ready to copy them to your computer.

Even the P&S cameras that do have internal memory can only hold from five to eight shots. That memory is primarily there to sell the camera in retail stores and were never meant to be the primary image storage device

Yes, if you want to take more than 3 or 4 photos. SDHC cards are cheap. You can get them at Wallymart for under $20.

Doomed.

You can shoot but you can't get it out of the camera.
