Nikon D50. 6.1 mega pixels, but takes sharp pictures?

I saw it on amazon. It only has 6.1 MP and is like 2, 000 dollars. And it takes such good pictures.

I mean, 6 MP isn't good at picture taking, now why is this camera showing me pictures of amazing captures and very good detail?

Because the pixel dimensions (i.e.mega pixel count) only determines the size of the image but NOT the quality.
A DSLR has a MUCH bigger sensor, hence the better quality.

Cramming 14 megapixels into the tiny little sensor of a P&S camera only causes problems (noise, etc) and therefore actually makes it even WORSE than it would be with less pixels crammed in.

The D50 retailed for $700 new when it was released quite a few years ago. You can get them for about $100 now.

6.1MP is more than enough unless you make big prints. What you're seeing is images on a computer screen. Means absolutely nothing.

Sure yes. Even the most advance camera can't get a good photograph without the excellent photographer behind it.

$2, 000? There's something wrong with that price. $200 is more accurate.

That camera, while perfectly fine is over six years old and when new did not cost $2, 000, not even close. And yes, it can take amazing photos if you have the skills necessary to use it.

If you have $2, 000 to spend, buy a nice Nikon D7000 and second lens. The Nikon D7000 is one of the best performing, non-professional, cropped sensor cameras around.

The Nikon D40 is 6MP, and can take magazine quality photos.
People should realize that anything over 6MP can be enlarged to 20" x 30".
