First time DSLR camera?

I'm getting my first DSLR for christmas and was wondering if anyone could give me insight on the Canon EOS 1100 D and the Nikon D3100, like how they perform and what one would be best for a first time buyer.

I really have my heart set on one of these two but any advice you could give from past experience would be great.

In your OWN opinion which do yo find better to use a 35mm 1.8 or a 50mm 1.8 lens?

Let's say you have a Nikon D3000 and photographing a wedding.

What camera settings do I use?

Ok, I took photography for 2 years at a-level, and eventually i bought a couple of lights with umbrellas and a white backing sheet and frame.
i know i need the ISO low to prevent grainy photos But, i'm struggling to find the right photo, i've spent all morning attempting trial and error changing many settings but - What main settings should i be concentrating on, i was not taught how to work in a studio at 6th form so any advice would be most appreciated.
i need to set the white balance when the studio is all set up with lights on, i also have continous lights but when i get more in to it i'm hoping to buy the flash ones.
I also have a nikon D60 and hoping to upgrade very soon. Any advice would be so helpful: D many thanks!
Louise.

Added (1). And To 'Jimmy' I did mention WE WERE NOT TAUGHT HOW TO USE A CAMERA IN A STUDIO! Nor were we taught to set up a studio…
so this is all new to me. Just be helpful rather than an ignorant ***. And yes thank you i passed both as and a2.

Why does my SB700 fire multiple times before actually taking the photo?

Just bought a Nikon SB700 flash for my D90. When I set my camera to any of the manual modes, the flash fires several times before actually taking the photo. I'm still pretty new to photography, so can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Best full body/ portrait lens for nikon d5100?

I'm 15, i have a nikon d5100 and the standard kit 18-55mm lens. I have photo shoots for fun with the girls. I usually just take up close face shots and some full body pics.price is kinda an object, i don't make to much money, i'm a 15 year old boy so the cheaper is better! What's the best lens for under $500? And also if you are reading this and you have a good portrait lens for sale email me s3an0709@gmail.com.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 or 40mm micro f/2.8?

I'm just a casual photo taker, I have a Nikon D3100 and want a new lens. I like to take macro pictures about 1/3 of the time, so the 40mm micro seems like a good choice. But, the 50mm has a bigger f stop for about $100 cheaper. I do about 1/3 portraits, 1/3 macro, and 1/3 misc.family and friends shots. Is the close focusing distance on the macro that much better on the 40mm to where I should spend more for it?

Best flash for Nikon camera?

I've been searching on Amazon, Ebay and BHphoto and have found many different flashes for my Nikon D5000, but am still undecided on which to purchase. Just a decent speedlight flash for under 150$. One that I could use wirelessly would be nice because I do a lot of macrophotography/portraits. (NOT looking for macro flash system) any suggestions are very much appreciated.
