Which Is Better in a Point and Shoot, higher MP or Optical Zoom?

I'm currently upgrading my older Kodak Easyshare 5MP 3x Optical Zoom. I don't usually get prints larger than 5x7 8x10 every once in a blue moon, if I do decide to print some they are 4x6. I did just order and receive a Nikon S6000, i haven't really put it together yet, i think i'm returning it, its just too small for me, i like something i can feel like i can hold onto.

But if I'm not printing more than a 4x6 size, then really the 14MP vs the 5 MP won't be too much different, I don't crop to print that much either. So my ZOOM Factor seems to be more of an issue.

Do you think I should go for a lower MP and a higher zoom than 3.x i mean the 14 MP will just take up more space (I think on the Nikon I got I can set it to take the pics starting at 5 mp or 8mp. But i want something a little bit bigger.

Can't get filter off lens?

I threaded the filter on my lens incorrectly… Right now it is stuck on. I have attempted removing it and I can't. I've never done this before.

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

If it matters it is a Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 with a B+W UVA filter.

Which dslr should I invest in? I'm a beginner but want to buy a camera that will last?

I plan to take photos of my children and nature settings. I have about 1000.00 to spend. I have been leaning towards Nikon instead of Canon. I just want to know, which dslr is best for a beginner that wants to work towards professional photography. One main factor for me is, the close picture with blurred background. Any help would be great.

Shutter Speed help! (NIKON EM)?

Ok, so basically I have a photography project in school and needed an SLR.Me being completely ametur, bought a Nikon EM cheaply off eBay. However, I was under the impression all SLRs came with a manual shutter speed setting. The EM has an automatic one which basically tells you in the view finder what shutter speed will be used in accordance with the aperture to create the best photos. HOWEVER. My project, unluckily, is based on MOVEMENT. Meaning, I need to edit the shutter speed to give the blurred effect.

Is there anyway of this?

I can't return the camera and would rather not buy a new one.

Are there any tricks you know about the NIKON EM? I'm so lost with what's supposed to be such a easy camera…
