SD card will not open my pictures on Windows 7 computer?

I recently got this new gateway intel 35700 Dual core processor with Windows 7 premium. I have a Nikon Coolplix digital camera with a 512 MB SD card. My card reader isn't reading my SD card. Here is what I have done so far.
1. My computer will not make a noise indicating that I have inserted a memory card in the reader. I checked to make sure my SD card was in the unlock position, and it is.
2. I went to Device manager clicked on Disk drives and in that sub menu I clicked on the option that says Multiple USB flash reader and it says correct driver is already installed (but I think that is for the flash drive).
3. I was looking for the memory card reader option, so I can update driver to that, but I can't find it. What would it be called exactly and what sub menu in device manager and where would I find it?

Where would I find any removable devices that I would not know about on Windows 7?

I'm used to the old XP on my old computer, and I didn't have an SD card reader. Shouldn't a window or something pop up when I put the SD card in the slot where I can open my photos or videos? My computer is SD compatible, so you would think it would work. It says xD/SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro above the slot.

Any information will be helpful

Added (1). It doesn't say if the card is compatible with windows 7? The SD card and camera is a few years old. I think it should work since the card is less than 1 to 2 GB

Added (2). @ Kevin, that worked finally, and they open. I'm just not used to windows 7, and have been trying to trouble shoot this for an hour. I overthink things plus windows 7 is confusing compared to XP, I think.

I can't find SD card in Device manager on Windows 7?

I recently got this new gateway computer with windows 7 on it. It will not recognize my SD card with my Nikon Coolplix digital camera 512 MB card. I need to update the driver from the Device manager, but I don't know what to look for in the device manager to do that? I can't seem to find anything indicating a memory card in the device manager. Where in device manager do I need to go to to update driver? My old computer had XP, and Windows 7 is taking me awhile to get used to since I never used it before. They should have made everything in the same spot. Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

Added (1). @ Bruce. Nothing is bringing up in the search.

Added (2). My computer is not even making any noise when I push the card in. It will not even go in the lock position inside the SD card reader. The sd card itself is in the unlocked position too.

Computer can't recognize SD card?

I have a coolplix digital camera by Nikon, which is a few years old. I just got a new Gateway computer with a digital card reader slot that can be used for xd/SD/MS/ and MS pro. However, this will not load the SD card on my Windows 7 Home Premium computer. It is a San Disk SD card 512 MB. What is wrong? I mean the computer won't make any noise or nothing pop ups on my screen when I put the SD card in the reader slot. I never had one on my old computer so I don't know much about them. I checked to make sure my SD card was in the unlock position and it was, and there are still photos. I just need some advice on how to get my computer to even recognize it. Do I need any updated drivers for it. All my USB ports work, is there a separate driver needed just for digital media like SD card readers. Help please. Thanks.

Added (1). Where in Device Manager do I find the memory card reader, what is that under

Added (2). I don't hear a clicking noise.

I just got this new dSLR camera for christmas, and I was wondering about help books?

It's a Panasonic Lumix G1 and I like it a lot (so far). I originally asked for a Nikon for christmas and my parents got me this camera instead, but they also got the "Digital SLR Photography All-In-One for Dummies" book. It's a helpful book, but I'm noticing that a LOT of the features he spends time talking about are not on my camera. Is there a different book (besides the manual) that anyone out there could think of that would be slightly more helpful?

Also: Where can you buy lenses for panasonic cameras? Every store I've seen lenses in, they're too big or a Cannon lens.

Are point and click cameras distorting compared to DSLRs?

I own a Canon Powershot point and click camera that I take all my photos with. Yesterday, I had to take before and after pictures concerning a surgery and I noticed my face looked different from the doctor's DSLR Nikon camera. Compared to the Canon, my face looked longer and my nose looked smaller and shorter. Do you find point and clicks portray people closer to real life or are DSLRs more accurate?
