What slur camera would be best for me?

Hi i'm thinking about buying a slr camera but i can't find the right one for me. The sort of camera i want is the lumix g2, but i'm not keen on the touch screen.
i need a camera that is around £500 and it can also record in full hd (1080p) i would prefer a make like cannon or nikon, and video should be able to be edited on imovie for mac.

Well you have a good budget, far more realistic than most.

G2 is a nice bit of kit, I believe that with the correct lens you can do 3D video as well. Fairly compact as well, hence the Lumix SLRs being popular with women (who on average have smaller hands).

The video I've seen from all the video SLRs has been quite impressive. The cheapest being the Nikon D5000/3100. Sony also has gorgeous video and colour re-prodcution.

Unless you have a lot of money to spend on glass, make sure you get a good quality kit lens. The best kit lens is the Nikon 18-55VR or 18-105VR. If you buy any other camera you will need to get a better lens to produce decent photos.

As for 'artsy' photos. The camera is not artsy, you are! So many people buy an SLR and automatically assume they will automatically be taking pro photos. The reality is, you will only be producing good photos when you master your SLR's manual controls, until then you may as well use a compact for artsy photos. Except that you will never learn to use an SLR if you do.

So just remember, the camera doesn't take the photo, you do.

The G2 is not a SLuR camera. It is instead an EVIL camera. If you're not the touchy kind of person, you can get the cheaper G10. Bear in mind that whatever camera you get, Lumix, Canon, Nikon or anything else, picture and movie quality will depend on you.
