Best settings for Nikon D60 for outdoor running race?

I have a standard lens - 18-55mm on my D60. This will be a fast race - only 1 mile so runners will be close up and moving quickly.

Why does the Nikon D3000 say this?

It says the total camera resolution is 10.8MP but it then says the effective camera resolution is 10.2MP.

So am I shooting with 10.8 or 10.2MP

Added (1). @Hjh-it's not a crime to have a Nikon D 3000, as I'm sure many other people do and it's also not a crime to have little hearts next to my profile name as I'm sure other people do as well.

Is a Nikon D90 camera good enough to get professional photos?

After I have completed a photography course? I want to do event photos and do my first few events ( not as the main photographer for no charge to gain experience ) and this is what I can afford for now - being a newbie and all, so if I'm good and I have had the classes, is this camera good enough?

What lens should I choose for my DSLR?

I have a D3100 body. I'm uncertain whether I should buy the kit lens 18-55mm or the 55-200mm lens. Both of them have VR (should I only pick them if they have this image stabilisation?)

I take portraits/sport/wildlife and also general photos for newspapers (such as a crash/a crowd protesting/a play at the theater). I can only choose one of these lenses, or something that does not cost more than the Nikon 55-200mm.

I will buy them both till winter, but right now I need to pick one of them. I have a facebook page with pictures that I took with my powershot if you would be interested in a reference of what I usually like to shoot (they ain't too great, but I'm trying to learn) http://www.facebook.com/...3263105179

Photography in the redwoods?

I will be taking pictures at a wedding in late may in the redwoods and have found it a bit tricky getting good shots since it can be quite dark under the heavy tree canopy.normally i would just use a tripod and lower shutter speed but ill be taking pictures of people, moving and whatnot.so… Any tips or advice is definitely welcome. If it helps, i have a nikon d3000 digital slr with a reg lens and a 200 mm one.

B&A: Nikon OR Canon? Which do you prefer?

I've always used Nikon, ever since I can remember so I've never really tried to use Canon because of being comfortable with Nikon. But what model do you use?

Nikon D5000 for me.

Nikon D3100 Image playback

I haven't had my d3100 that long but I noticed after I take a pic when it shows me the pic taken it will have an info area with the image I just took is small and in the left corner and then all around it shows all the values and graphs about the pic. How do i turn that off so it just shows the full picture?

How to fix a soaked dslr?

My nikon d90 got soaked in a flood for more than an hour. It was raining hard and i usually place my dslr on the floor. When we arrived home the flood was at a knee-level and saw my dslr bag floating with the cam in it. I hurriedly removed it from the bag. I didn't turn it on.removed the batteris and mermory card. I dried it out using the electric fan. What do I do next?

Pictures is blurr in my new nikon d90?

Hi
I have bought a new Nikon D90 and I'm new on taking pictures. This is the first time I bought a DSLR camera and use it. For my work I need a professional camera. So I decided to buy a DSLR one like D90.
I have not changed the sittings of the camera but when I try to shot a text or insect it is blurring. The 12 Mega pixels is not working. I see blurry pictures in the screen of the camera.

The second thing is which lens is better for insects from a far. I'm working in plant protection and every day I have reports include a lot of pictures (most are insects). Before I was using a normal digital camera but my manager said that all my pictures is under 300 dpi. So how to make that?

Good portrait lens for d3100?

I have a nikon d3100, i want to buy a 50mm f1.8 as i portrait lens, but some tell me that a 35mm would work as a 50mm on my camera and someone else told me to just set my 18-55 kit lens on 35mm and thats what the 35mm lens would look like, is that true? Would you recommend the 50mm f1.8 for me to shoot portraits with? I'm a makeup artist so i'm trying to find a good lens so i can take good pictures of the makeup. Thanks!

Added (1). I don't mind that it doesn't autofocus, i like to manual focus anyways, thats what i do with my kit lens.
