Nikon D3000 dark pictures?

I have a nikon d3000. I'm not that experienced so I use it on auto mode. Whenever I take pictures indoors, they come out dark even if the flash is used. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

My budget is 800$ I will be shooting outdoors, in low light conditions, and video. If you have experience with either of these cameras please give me your opinion. Don't just post something you found off of a website, i can find all that myself.

Best but cheap professional digital camera?

Here is what I'm looking for! (if possible!)
- Zooms in (at least) 40mm
- Can record
- Can change focus during recording (optional / not a must have)
- Comes with a battery charger
- I don't want a huge camera… I feel like I'm a target if I'm walking around the city. The Nikon D60 size is probably the "big" limit. (It's about the size of a medium jewelry box.)

Do you know of any professional cameras that sound similar to this? My family owns a Nikon D60, though I'm saving up for a better one. I have a budget of $350.00, so no more than that!

Please let me know if you have any recommendations; I have heard Canon is very good!
Also, if possible, please give a description of the camera you are recommending!

I want to buy new lens for my Nikon D70?

I'm looking to buy a new lens for my Nikon D70. I already have an 18-70mm lens but I want to upgrade. What is the best lens for a reasonable price? Say, under $500?

Also, my 18-70mm is broken. And I know it would be cheaper to just send the lens into Nikon and have them fix it but I still am looking to find a new lens.

Thank you

Added (1). The lens got broken when my mom had it around her neck and she tripped on a curb, fell, and the camera hit the ground. The lens got jammed and it won't move at all.

Can I shoot in the dark with my DSLR?

I have a Nikon D7000 and i'm an amateur/enthusiast photographer. It is my first DSLR, so i'm relatively new to photography. I usually shoot on Aperture priority or shutter priority. I was just shooting around my house the other day playing around with the settings, and i turned off the lights in my livingroom so it was completely dark. The only lights in the room were from the led display on the cablebox showing the time. I tried taking shots with the iso at 6400. The problem was that it didn't want to take the photos. I then tried focusing on the time that was on the cablebox and it took the shot. I then tried it with the built in flash and agian it didn't want to take a photo. Before i had the D7000 i had a canon point and shoot. It would take photos with the flash in completely darkness without any problems.
I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong, or if maybe DSLR's can't shoot in complete darkness. I'm not saying i need to shoot in complete darkness, cause i don't. But is it possible.

PS. I was using a kit 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6
