Is the Nikon D3100 worth 400 dollars?
So I want to get into photography and researched dslr camera and found out the Nikon D3100 is the best budget for amateur. I just craiglist and a guy is selling it for $400.00 or OBO. He said he only open it once and powered it on. Everything is including and he will throw in a 4GB memory card. Is that worth it? Should I lower it?

What are some good lenses with artsy effects for a nikon D5000?

Sigma 150-500 on a Nikon D5000?
I'm looking to invest in a new lens and would like to get the sigma 150-500 but will it fit onto my Nikon D5000.
Also do you think this lens would be good for surf photography?

I discovered it recently and am not sure how long it's been like this, but my nikon d40 won't turn off. I tried resetting the settings and taking out the batteries. Nothing happens. I flip the switch on off, the camera still thinks it's on. Everything else works fine though.
Can anyone help.please!

Is it worth it to get the D3100 with the 55-200mm lens?
In my country, there's a promotion for the Nikon D3100 (with the 18-55mm kit lens). When you buy it, you will get lots of free stuff but the icing on the cake for me is the free 55-200mm lens. Is it a good buy?

Does Nikon d5100 has same sensor as d7000?
Please suggest me the best camera…
Also suggest me the best lense.

I'm looking to upgrade from my point and shoot, which i find frustrating because of the lack of customizability (can't manually focus, doesn't work well in low light, overall quality not as good as dslr).
I don't really want an entry level camera because I plan on having my dslr for a long long time. (10 years or so). I think i'm a decent photographer (and i was told i was good by my photo teacher), even with my point and shoot, so i'm hoping to expand my skills with a dslr.
Should I get a nikon or a canon? What models should i look at? From the research I have done, i think i heard the nikon D7000 is good, and the canon EOS is good too (not sure which one exactly though haha).
I think i'm going to take 500 bucks from my parents, as a birthday/college/late christmas gift, and then get a job to make the remainder up. Of course I would like a cheaper camera, but i'm willing to work for a better quality one. I guess it would be good if its not too much greater than 1000 dollars, because I want it before july.
Added (1). Jereon: Of course I will have to upgrade lenses and some stuff, but the point is that I don't want to get bored of all the features (and want even more customizability) after a year or so.

Tips for taking better photos?
I'm really into photography and I've only been doing it for a year, just a few months ago I got my first D-SLR. It is a Nikon D3100. I have the standard kit lens 18-55mm VR and a Tamron zoon 18-270mm VR. I also have two filters, a polarizing one and a UV filter (I'm into landscapes). What are some things I could improve with to build my skills? I think I need to work on my composition, but I would like to hear your opinion. I have 2 flickr photostreams. I'll link them both so if you are interested you can look through my photos and give any feedback you might have.
