Is it worth it to get the D3100 with the 55-200mm lens?
In my country, there's a promotion for the Nikon D3100 (with the 18-55mm kit lens). When you buy it, you will get lots of free stuff but the icing on the cake for me is the free 55-200mm lens. Is it a good buy?
I definitely think it's a good buy.
The vibration reduction of the lens really helps keep the photos sharp. It's great for outdoor photography.
And the D3100 camera itself is a great buy as well. Good quality stuff.
Try going on Flickr, and search for "55-200mm Nikon lens photography" and see if you like what you see.
Price the camera body alone - www.bhphotovideo.com will give you a good estimation of what the market price is. Then see if the lens is actually "free". Quite often all that "free" stuff is a come on so you pay way more than the body + lens would cost elsewhere. Don't we live in a fabulous world?
Sounds like a good deal, i'd go for it.
By asking i assume you are starter - novice otherwise you could make a choice by yourself, so if you're really a starter you better get a used Nikon D40 Kit for like 100-150$ with the 18-55mm, and try to get 55-200mm and a 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8 lens also used for like 50$, all these for about 300$, trust me, you will thank me for years.
Beware that the 35mm and the 50mm won't auto focus on the D40 and the DX Bodies.
Yes. That's a nice beginners telezoom.
