Wait… You're going to be the primary wedding photographer without any experience and just that single lens? If so, then you're in big trouble. Try to get out of the responsibility, talk to the couple about it.

1) Stay out of the paid photographers way
2) limit your shots to the reception
3) Shoot independently of the primary photographer. This means shooting candid shots of the guests, looking for interesting things that are going on. Children dancing with adults, the interaction of the guest with each other, things like that.

I presume you mean the D5000? The 50mm f1.4 will be ok, but you will need to frame/compose with your feet as there's no zoom ( ie YOU move in & out). Whatever you do don't get in the paid photographers way.

Outdoors if there's plenty of light you have option to shoot shallow depth of field or deep - just set your aperture according to what you want to portray. Indoors, where flash is not allowed, you'll be limited to wider apertures & shallow dofs, so make sure your point of focus is accurate (on the eyes) as you'll only have a shallow plane of focus.

Keep the ISO as low as possible, except when you absolutely have to raise it.

Use the light meter in spot metering mode to be pick up correct skin tones. For shots of the dress, you may want to slightly over expose (but not too much or you'll lose detail.
