I've only had a point and shoot digital camera before, and I'm looking for an upgrade digital SLR with more features that is fast and easy to use in different kinds of light, and produces great image quality. Nothing too fancy. I'd like to spend less than $650, although I'm sure I can find a low price for most kinds of cameras online.

Why do my Nikon D3000 Pictures Comes Up Dark in M mode?
Basically I've been messing around with the settings here and there trying to figure out how to do long exposure and such, but problem is is that When I switch my camera to M mode and take a picture it comes up black. Why is this? D
On the body of my dslr, there's a strange sign. What does it mean?
To be more specific, I have a Nikon D70s. And on the right top corner of the camera (Next to the top screen) there's a sign of a circle and a line crossing it. It is not painted, it is a part of the camera. Does anyone know what that means? I'm just curious.
Nikon d3000 help on shooting into sun?
I have a nikon d3000 and i'm am going to do my first shoot but it will be at a time when i have to shoot directly into the sun. How can i set my camera so i can get the sunset/sun and the people in the picture. I'm all for the silouette pictures i think they are beautiful but i don't want All of my pictures to be sillouette.

Nikon D5000? Is it a good camera?
I just found out that I'm getting the D5000 for my birthday. I'm a photographer for my school's yearbook, so I'm used to using D70s, D80s, and D90s for my photo assignments. Since the D5000 is older and less expensive, will I notice a huge downgrade from what I'm used to using? I'm sort of a beginner, but I want to have good features available to me so I can learn more about it.
So how good of a camera is it? I'm mainly going to be using it for artsy photos and vacation photos. Also, does it shoot in burst mode?
