Nikon d3000 help on shooting into sun?
I have a nikon d3000 and i'm am going to do my first shoot but it will be at a time when i have to shoot directly into the sun. How can i set my camera so i can get the sunset/sun and the people in the picture. I'm all for the silouette pictures i think they are beautiful but i don't want All of my pictures to be sillouette.
If you are shooting into the sun, and have people lit up as well, you are going to need a pretty gutsy flash. Probably an SB-600. If it is late evening, when the sun is low, you are going to have to get an amber gel to place over the flash to match the flash's light with the color of the sun's evening light.
Underexpose to get the sunset's strong colors. Overexpose to get the features of the people. The level of over or underexposure will depend on your taste. Shoot at manual mode and defy the lightmeter.
Normally you can't combine the beautiful colors of the sunset while maintaining correct exposure levels for your subjects. You can take two shots, one underexposed for the sunset and one overexposed for the people, then combine them in the computer. You can also try using flash to light your subjects briefly while underexposing for the sunset. The look may be unnatural but you'll have to judge it for yourself.
