Nikon d90 and focal Points?
I'm wanting to take a pic of my daughter holding a flower straight out in front of her. I want the flower to be VERy in focus but the rest to be blurry how do I achieve that on a Nikon d90
Shoot with the lens wide open and focus on the flower
Depending upon your composition, you can move the focus point where you need it to be
What lens do you have to work with? I usually use a lens with a wide aperture (Nikon 50mm 1.8 for example) to get a shallow DOF (Depth of Field) that covers the flower but doesn't reach the subject's face. Then, turn the AF to Dynamic Area and manually select the focus point for the flower (you may have to flip the level on the bottom-right of the LCD to unlock the focus point. Then, use the arrow-pad to move the focus point). Press the shutter 1/2 way to focus (make sure it's focusing on the flower!) then completely press it to take the picture.
Here is a similar example I did with my wife: (replace the camera with a flower!)
