I want to buy new lens for my Nikon D70?

I'm looking to buy a new lens for my Nikon D70. I already have an 18-70mm lens but I want to upgrade. What is the best lens for a reasonable price? Say, under $500?

Also, my 18-70mm is broken. And I know it would be cheaper to just send the lens into Nikon and have them fix it but I still am looking to find a new lens.

Thank you

Added (1). The lens got broken when my mom had it around her neck and she tripped on a curb, fell, and the camera hit the ground. The lens got jammed and it won't move at all.

The amazing 18-200 mm VR lens would be the choice to replace your broken lens and have an excellent one lens solution, but you will need to save a few more pennies. It costs a little over $800.

How did you break your 18-70 mm lens?

The 18-105mm would be a step up in range and probably as sharp or sharper. A possible weakness is that it might have some chromatic aberration. The lens was released with the introduction of the D90, which also introduced processor correction of CA in.jpg files.

Upgrade… 18-105 or 16-85 are the most logical options. Fixing that 18-70 is not worth it but it will still fetch $20 on ebay for parts.

Any Nikon F mount lens will work on your body. However only AF-S and AF-I lenses will autofocus. If I were in your situation I would just get a 35mm f/1.8 AF-S G as it is very sharp, cheap, and is quite fast, it's one of my favorite lenses. Then I would put my spare funds towards purchasing a new body. You may also want to consider purchasing used, such as from the buy and sell board on fredmiranda.com.
