Can old detachable lens be used on new cameras?

My mom has an old attachable flash that she used for her SLR back in the day. However it in in a deep place that would take a lot to get it out. So would that flash work on my Nikon D5000?
She said it was one where it could go on any major brand back in the day.

I have a problem with my Nikon D3100?

Its something with the memory. I only have 44 pictures on my memory card, and its 8 GB. I don't know what happened, but now, I can't take any more pictures.
Its hard to explain. Heres what I do.
First, I take a picture. Second, I try to playback the picture. (I press the play button). It doesn't let me see the picture. So I turn off the camera. I turn it back on, and the playback button doesn't work anymore. So I take out the battery, put it back in, and turn on the camera again. I press the playback button, and the picture is gone! I don't know what's wrong. Do you think its the camera or the memory card?

Should I just buy a new battery?

The other day, I got a Nikon D40X, used but in wonderful condition. The camera itself is flawless, works and looks like new and even came with an 18x70mm lens. The only problem is, the battery won't hold a charge at all. I went out shooting yesterday and could only go to two of the ten sites i picked out before I had to go home and put the battery on to charge. It was only about ten minutes (a little less than ten but more than five) of shooting. Is there some method to maybe bring the battery back to life, or should I just get a new one? If so, does anyone recommend any brand or type of battery?

What is this star doing?

I was taking pictures of the stars the other night and when I went through them later I found a strange looking one. It almost looks like something was flying around it. Please let me know if you have any ideas of what it could be?

I was using a nikon D40 with a 200mm zoom and the exposure was 30 seconds long.
