Does using manual focus on a DSLR's movie mode make noise like autofocus?

I've notice in quite a lot of video tests from certain Nikon's, Canon's, etc. That using the autofocus during the movie mode actually creates noise that you can hear it focus, if I were to film using manual focus instead of autofocus, would I be able to film low/ambient scenes without hearing the annoying focus noise?

High Quality Camera Selection

I have decided it's time to invest in a high quality camera for myself. Because I'm going to be spending a lot of money on the camera, I would rather spend a lot and be set for several years. Money is not an issue to an extent, but I would still like to spend as little as I can. I'm looking to spend anywhere from $1, 000-1, 700 on a camera and lens.

I'm not an expert on cameras (I can't compare specs and such and know what they mean). This will be my first big camera purchase (excluding a $150 camera that I got 6 years ago). I'm preferably looking for a camera that can take high quality action shots (football, basketball, cars in motion, etc) as well as macro shots (very close pictures of insects and such). However, if I can't get those two features in my price range, I would prefer the action shots. (FYI for the action shots, I want to be able to get high quality photos even if I'm 200 or so feet away). Shooting from the stands at a college basketball game for example.

I also have been doing art for the past year, which gave interest to me to start photography. I'm not sure if that will help as well, but I'll just throw it out there. Btw, I need a camera AND a lens, so together they have to be in the price range above, not individually.

I would really appreciate if someone who knew camera specs and different types of lens could give me a camera or two for reference. I would appreciate if you could explain the pros and cons of the lens/camera as well because I can't compare the two. (I also heard that Nikon is better than Canon, i don't know if that's true or not, but I'm just throwing that out there).

I really appreciate the time and effort you will put into this!

Seeking professional photography advice?

I'm getting a camera and I'm stuck between 2 similar cameras. The Fujifilm FinePix S2950 and the Nikon L110… They are similar in price and differ in various features. I'm not looking for a very professional camera, just a bit of an upgrade.

Looking to get a new camera?

I'm looking to buy a camera as someone who is just starting to get into photography! I currently have a pretty basic point and shoot (panasonic dmc-fx12) and i'm usually able to get pretty good pictures from it

and there's nothing that a little bit of photoshop can't fix.

however, i'm looking to upgrade and would like something a bit nicer - i've gotten nikon d90s and several canons recommended to me but would appreciate any input you guys have to offer!

also do cameras tend to run cheaper if you buy them used/where is the cheapest place to buy them?
i have a budget of about $500

Nikon DSLR/Lens gets stuck and won't manual focus? Why? How can I fix it?

Sometimes when I switch from auto to manual focus on my camera, it won't let me take a photo. I can focus it manually, but when I press the shutter button, I hear the motor trying to focus. The camera body is acting as if it won't take a shot because nothing is in focus yet. I think the screw isn't in contact so it's not auto focusing the lens either (while on manual focus) while it thinks it should be auto focusing. The motor just keeps whining. Once in awhile, if I turn the camera off, remove the lens, and reconnect it, then I can get manual focus. It's a new Nikon DSLR from last year, using a couple lenses I had from my previous camera. Auto focus works great, no problem. I'm flying out tomorrow and won't have a chance to take it to a shop for a couple of weeks. Any suggestions?

What are your favorite digital cameras, and which ones do you dislike?

I'm planning to replace my old Nikon S4000 because it broke. Based on your experience, which cameras would you recommend? And which should be avoided?
