Can I still return my Nikon Camera to a Best Buy if I no longer have the box?

I have the 1 year warranty that came with the camera itself, and I also have the receipt of the purchase. It has been less than a year, but I'm wondering if I can still return it if I don't have the actual box that it came in.

Trouble with loading 35mm film?

I'm a film photography novice who just got a Nikon EM 35mm camera and today tried, for the first time, to load it with film.

After loading the film into the chamber on the left side, I put the leader onto the wrong spool and when I tried to wind it on, the perforations on the leader tore. Without the perforations, there was no way the spool was going to wind the film on so I used a scissors to cut off the torn leader. Then, by cutting into the remainder of the film and removing a few of the upper perforations, I made a new leader.

I put this leader into the correct spool and managed - with difficulty, as the spool was hard to turn - to wind on the film. I closed the back of the camera and proceeded to use the shutter and winder to wind on the film until the little window next to the shutter indicated that the first frame was reached.

I'm worried that because I shortened the film by removing the leader, that the film isn't actually at the first frame but is off by the length of the leader!

Have I completely botched this roll of film? I don't know whether or not 35mm film is continuous. Are there frames that must be in exact position in order to achieve a proper picture?

A decent priced PROFESSIONAL camera?

I'm looming for a professional camera to buy. I want to take actual professional pictures with it. I'm trying to stay anywhere up to &1250 if possible. I'm looking to buy a new digital camera. My current Nikon Cool Pix is not working out. It takes Way too long to snap a photo. I currently use my Nikon SLR but that isn't the best choice for all occasions.

Nikon J1 menu options can't be accessed?

I got a new Nikon J1 camera and I've been trying to take pictures in black and white, sepia, etc. I've found out how to go about doing that, go to Picture Control in Menu, but I can't access the Picture Control. It's always in grey and says, "This menu/menu item is not available at current settings/ under current conditions." I haven't had the camera long enough to drastically change anything, so why can't I access it?

B.E.I.- Thank you very much for your kind suggestion, I do have that manual and did read through it before posting. The problem I have is not that I do not know how to access the monochrome, sepia, etc.options, it is that the Picture Control menu item is not accessible. I do edit most of my photos at a later date but would also like the ability to take them straight away in those options.
