Canon ships "tethering" software with their DSLRs. Nikon doesn't (except for top-end cameras); you have to buy it.
Well traveled is correct.
Now the question is this. What exactly are you attempting to accomplish by tethering your camera to a computer?
I have used it from time to time and tethering slows down productivity in a huge way.
You have to wait for each image to write to your computer using a USB cable and your range of movement is limits your shooting unless your camera is mounted on a tripod.
Here is the program for specific Nikon dSLR cameras.

It is much better to shoot using smaller cards and when filled hand them to your assistant to copy the image files to the computer.
Unless you have actually experienced the benefits and limitations of tethered shooting and know this is what you want, you may be very disappointed with how it all works
Since Lightroom costs only $20 more than Control Pro, you would be happier using Lightroom. If you are a student, you can buy LIghtroom for under $100 in your student store
