Want to buy Canon Pixma MG8120 Printer, will it work with my Nikon D5000 camera?

I'm looking for a printer to print great pictures and do not need an all in one. After looking for a while, I think the Canon Pixma MG8120 is what I want to get.

This printer has a feature that works with making photos out of video. Will this work with my D5000 video, or only on Canon cameras?
Are Canon printers for everyone, or mainly made for use with a Canon camera?

I want to make sure I do not buy this and find out that some of the features I can't use with my Nikon camera.

Is there anything else on this printer that would not work with me camera?

I'm trying to take some self-portraits, but?

Can anyone help me? I have a Nikon D40 and I want to practise by taking some self-portraits. I had some ideas in mind of what I could do. The thing is, when I set up my camera and put it on a timer, it doesn't take because it's got nothing to focus on, since it's pointing at a plain white wall… What do I do? It will only take a photo if there's something to focus on, when obviously it can't be me because I have to set the camera up before I step back into position. I'm so confused, is there anything I can do? I've tried every single setting and none of them will do it.

Use Laptop as monitor for Nikon D3100?

I'm planning on producing a video for a film festival coming up, and I plan on shooting the majority of it with my Nikon D3100 because of the cinematic look of the video (ie: depth of field) seeing that the other cameras I have are all high-end broadcast cameras which look great for the concerts and church shows I film, but not really on the big screen.

Seeing that the on-camera monitor is relatively low resolution, and my external ones aren't much better, I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to use a laptop as an external monitor for better focusing, and a better live preview. I'd prefer it be free, but I guess I'll pay whatever. I've All ready tried Nikon's Camera Control Pro, but the D3100 isn't supported.

Lens for Nikon D3100 - VR/OS vs Price Range?

First time posting a question here, hope to get some great responses: D

So I'm new to photography, I purchased a Nikon D3100 two months ago with an 18-55 VR kit lens. I'm now searching to add two more lenses to my arsenal to help me learn.

For the first one I have already decided the Nikon 50mm f1.8, but for the second I was looking for a zoom lens. Particular Sigma's 70-300 APO
http://www.adorama.com/...AMNKG.html

Now this does NOT have Vibration reduction/ Optical Stabilization. The version of the 70-300 that does is priced at $369-$399
http://www.adorama.com/...OSNKG.html

Now, as a beginner, that $400 mark is beyond me, I'm not going to dish out that much, I can't.
Is the VR Really worth that mark up? Wouldn't a tripod do the same thing? What situations require VR?

If VR is really important, would I be better off going with Sigma's 50-200 that has VR/OS http://www.adorama.com/...45NKG.html

And also, since I have only listed Sigma, a third party lens manufacturer, is there another brand that may be cheaper and better? Nikon's own lenses do get very pricey…

Thanks!

Added (1). In response to the_camera_guy, I will hardly use autofocus: D Really the only time I set up autofocus is when I give the camera to my mom to use xD

So the ability to autofocus or not is not a big deal for me. The only situation is may be useful is when I use my D3100 to shoot skits, sketches, and short films with my friends. I know of that internal noise which is why I have a Zoom H1 external recorder, heh.

Need advice on my photography?

I love photography and got a Nikon D3000 for Christmas. Then I bought a 35mm DX f/1.8 lens for my camera too. And I've been taking pictures and I wanted some feedback and advice/constructive criticism. I'm also doing a 365 project right now. I'm on day 9.So here are some links, please be honest and tell me what you think! It'd help a lot.

and if you lke them and your bored you can look at my old account where all the pictures were taking with a video camera because I didn't have any other camera to take them with:

thanks.oh and what should I do with my pictures if they are good? I don't know how to get recognized. I've been adding pictures to groups and commenting on others photos but I'm not getting that many views.

MY NIKON D90 WILL NOT FIRE

NIKON D90, 50MM LENS, A' MODE, SHOOTING OUTDOORS AROUND 3PM. (SUNNY) THE SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON LOCKS UP AND IT WILL NOT FIRE, IN ORDER TO TAKE MY PICTURE I HAD TO CHANGE THE LENS. WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM?
IS IT THE LENS OR THE CAMERA CAUSING THIS? WAS IT TOO BRIGHT (SUNNY) FOR THE 50MM LENS? BECAUSE AFTER CHANGING TO A 18-105 LENS THE SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON WOULD FIRE AGAIN.

Added (1). I'm using the 50mm f/1.8 D AF Nikkor lens, and the aperture ring was turned all the way to 22. When you look at the locking point there's two orange or red dots right? Do I set does dots to match, or how do I know when is locked? I'm new to all this sorry.

Added (2). * I also Called Nikon, but who ever answered was not very helpful. All she said was that she has never heard of a lens causing the shutter release button to lock.
