Which DSLR camera should I choose?

Have an interest in photography, but am most definitely in the amateur category. I'm trying to expand my knowledge and skill set and would like to upgrade to an inexpensive DSLR. Been doing a lot of research and narrowed it down to either a Canon Rebel T1i, or a Nikon D3100 simply because they are trusted brands, in my price range and I've read many favorable reviews for both. The problem is I'm having trouble deciding which I should go with. Any guidance is much appreciated.

I formated my Nikon D70 Compact flash card. Any chance for unformat?

Does Nikon D70 format the CF card to the factory settings with 0x00000 all over?
Is it possible to unformat it somehow using a software.
Tried e few programs unsuccessfully. Every time it said ''Empty''
Any Advice or recommendation?

Added (1). Does NIKON D70 do low level format (wipes everything clear) or is doing just a quick format (easy to get recovered) ?

Need some help from you guys in choosing the best of these two cameras?

After long contemplations it has come down to these two:

( not the best but has a decently wide lens that comes with it)

Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens
new $799.99
used $420.00
---

( I have to buy wider lens separately for this camera)

Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens

new $729
used $600. + separate lens for $165

I would prefer to get something that I can gradually upgrade thru time and easily find parts for it
However I'm not sure which of the two that might be,

Thanks,

Added (1). I don't have either camera brands,
That's why I'm trying to decide which one to buy,
I don't want to spend more than I need to on a good camera,

Why don't any DSLR cameras have a video mode?

I was thinking of buying the Nikon D3000 and I liked everything about it but the only thing keeping me from buying this camera is the fact that it can't record any videos. I want to have a camera that takes sharper pictures, with manual settings and all but also is capable of recording videos. I read online why some people think DSLRs don't have a video mode but it's all too confusing for me to understand since I'm not very knowledgeable in cameras.

Added (1). Is the quality really good in the nikon DSLRs that offer video recording?

Nikon D3100 usb mount not working on Vista?

I just bought a new 16gb SD card for my Nikon and none of my readers can read it (except my camera) so I plugged my camera to my pc and it won't detect it (I think it has something to do with the file system on the card). Can anyone help?

Lenses for a nikon D7000?

I have been taking photos on a canon 400D since 2007, using a standard 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses that came with the kit.
i'm now looking to upgrade to a nikon d7000 as it is what i'm looking for compared to the canon 7D.
but after much research i'm having trouble picking lenses… I take alot of photos of animals, plants, portraits in low light most of the time. I want to get a macro lens, aswell as 2 other good lenses, which compensate for how i'm used to the lenses on my canon.
also if you know any other good equipment i should consider, please contribute.
