How to take action shots of moving subjects on the Nikon D3100? - 1

Every time i have tried they are all extremely blurry but the advertising says it shouldnt…

You need to decide why they're blurry. Are they out of focus or moving too fast. If the object is speed blurry try setting the dial to S and picking a fast shutter speed, like 1/2000

There are different ways, depending on the action and how you want your picture to look.

You could write a whole chapter on this topic. Too much to write here. I suggest borrowing a book from the library on photography.

To get you started: you need a fast shutter speed. However, the faster the shutter speed, the less light will get to the camera, so the darker your pictures will become. Therefore you will need to make up for this by adjusting your aperture, using flash, or increasing your ISO. Even then it may not be enough depending on the what the subject is and what the surrounding light is like.

You can also try things like "panning with your subject" - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

As you can see, you should read your camera manual and get a book on photography. It will help immensely.
