Can a shy person like me indulge in photography?

I'm not exactly an introvert but I'm not an extrovert either. I'm just shy around people, even my relatives.So, I'm going to buy a Nikon D3100 soon and my mum told me that I have to be the one who takes photographs when there's a family event like a wedding or birthday or something. Obviously not professionally but I'm still nervous because I'm the kind of person who won't go around saying something like "okay you three, smile for the camera!" or going around taking photos of people. I prefer going out on my own or maybe with a small group of friends and take photos. What do you think about this?

I'm going for Nikon 3100 DSLR so that I can have still and video through same camera. I want to come out of handling two cameras, one for still and one for video. I want to know how much continuous HD 1080p video is possible in D3100 camera. Is it possible to take video for say 30 minutes, if I put right memory card? I learned some where that it can take only 5 minutes clips, so I'm confused.

What are the best settings for car photography in sunlight?

I bought the Nikon D3000 a couple weeks ago mainly for car photography and I've tried some different settings to get that perfect picture but it's not really doing anything, but anyway i'm going to a car show this weekend and I'll be there from like 8 in the morning until about 4 or so in the afternoon and it's supposed to be sunny all day. I've heard that filters help with glare and stuff but do they really work and can you tell me some settings for the BEST pictures for the morning and afternoon when the sun is at the highest point.

I have the 18-55mm lens on now but I'm thinking of maybe buying the 55-200mm lens, do the different lenses make a difference quality wise?

How to turn the bulb setting off on my Nikon D40 camera?

I have a Nikon D40 camera and I don't know how this happened, but when I try to change the shutter speed it goes to 30 and then 'bulb'. Its incredibly frustrating as I'm not able to take pictures on the manual setting unless its during the day time or the flash is on. I have tried re-setting the camera but this doesn't seem to have an effect. Any help would be appreciated!
