What dslr came to buy?

So far i have a digital camera. I never bought a one of dslr cameras, but done research about it. I heard that Nikon and Cannon are the best. But Nikon has good dslr cameras and cannon has good digital cameras. I was wondering which camera to buy, Nikon or Cannon? I want to go in depth with photography in the future, and i'm a pro at editing photo quality in photoshop CS3. Also if I were to buy nikon or cannon, which version should I buy (cannon 30d, nikon 50d).

Added (1). I also want a camera with excellent quality, like professional so that I rarely would have to use photoshop CS3. Also, IF YOU CAN, can you guys recommend me the type of lens that I should use for the cameras too.

Is a 10 MP DSLR camera better than a 12 MP regular digital camera?

I already have a regular digital camera (NIkon s3000) and it has 12 MP. I want to invest in a DSLR but I'm not sure where to start. I found a Sony Alpha 230L that is 10 MP. Would I get better quality pictures from the DSLR or the regular nikon camera?

Can you define what my photos say about me?

I just started using my nikon DSLR a month ago but have always loved taking photos. A picture can often describe the photographer in many ways. I have viewed some photos on Flickr and have seen amazing photos. One person may take a photo of the sunset with his car and ask what do you think of this photo. Well the first thing that caught my eye was his car to be honest. Every picture has a meaning as to why the photographer chose that particular event or interest. My passion for photography has developed more now than ever so basically just wondering what can you see or say about me through my photos.

What is a decent digital camera for beginner-intermediate learners?

I'm currently using a Sony Cyber-shot 10.1 mega pixel digital camera.
I've heard that a real photographer can use a disposable camera to get the shot,
but feel like my camera is equivalent to dial-up as opposed to high-speed.
I know what I want to do, but just can't make my camera do it. It's auto everything.

I've used Nikon cameras before with detatchable lens and love it,
though I have no idea how to use it besides playing around with it or asking my friend what to do.

I want a decent camera for a reasonable price ($300-$500) range that I can learn and advance on and be able to use in future photography classes.

What do you suggest would be a camera for me to look into?

What DSLR camera should I purchase? - 1

I'm looking to buy a DSLR and where I live, there are few who know anything about cameras. Currently, I'm looking at the Canon 500D, just because it's more in my price range and I like the quality of the images.

I'm fairly loyal to Canon, but if you can make a good argument for Nikon I would definitely consider it. I'm looking for an DSLR for taking family photos, as well as some nature and head shots for my acting clients.

Any suggestions?

Do all Canon DSLRs share lenses?

I'm considering either the 5d mark ii or the 7d from Canon. I'm interested mainly in portraits but other things as well. I don't know which camera to go too… It would be a huge upgrade from my current Nikon. I know the mark is full frame
Can someone explain the lens varieties to me?

How to use Vivitar auto thyristor 283?

I have a Vivitar auto thyristor 283 and I put batteries in it but I'm completely clueless and new to flashes. I have a nikon film and a kodak digital will it work with these? It was given to me so I don't have a manual and I have no idea how to use it. And I have no idea what the dial on the side of the flash is telling me or how to set the sensor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
