Is the Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX (non VR) a good lens?

I've recently purchased a Canon t3i and I wish to use my old lens with it. I've also ordered a Nikon to Canon lens adapter so that I can use my Nikon lens on my Canon body.
Is the Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX (non VR) a decent lens? Is it good enough?
I'm a casual photographer and I take photos of landscapes, people, etc.

Any feedback or advice would be helpful and very appreciated.

Good & professional photo cameras?

I've always had a thing for photography, but have never had a really great photo camera and time for that or modeling. I mean, I have a Nikon 5100, but my photos(especially the portrait ones) don't look like some other polaroids with models that I've seen on the internet for example. What cameras do those photographers use? Or what kind of lenses do they use?

Maybe I just don't know how to properly use it(or the ones who take the pictures of me).Remember that no one can help me, besides the internet, so you, guys. If you know professional photo cameras which take great portraits and if you have any tips or pieces of advice, please write them down.

Are there any Nikon lenses that DON'T use mechanical aperture coupling?

When you mount a Canon lens to a Canon body, there's no mechanical connection between the body and the lens. Control of the lens (i.e.closing the aperture as well as focusing) is completely electronic.

It seems that Nikon has been dragging its feet in this department, and lags behind Canon. While Nikon lenses produced nowadays have their own autofocus motors (and no longer use the focusing motor / shaft in the camera body), they STILL require mechanical control of the aperture (i.e. The aperture lever in the camera body manipulating the aperture lever in the lens).

I find it absurd that Nikon hasn't gotten rid of this immediately. What I'm wondering is: does Nikon even make lenses whose control is purely electronic, like Canon's?

Why is my slow motion feature so dark on my nikon 1 j1?

When i switch to the video icon, I can see perfectly clear with great lighting the environment in the viewfinder lcd screen, but when I switch it to slow motion mode it goes widescreen & darkens alot with alot of noise too, i already reset camera settings, but still won't work, I have it set to auto scene selector, I've messed with the M, SP, AP settings and none can improve the quality of the slowmotion feature! Light Meter won't show up?

I'm taking a photography class, and It's our first digital assignment. At school, i could operate the camera perfectly fine, but now at home everything is going wrong.
I'm a complete beginner at this, so I really need some assistance here please.

In my hands i've got a Nikon D-80
I'm shooting in my bedroom, the light is attached to my ceiling fan. (Bright, but not very good lighing.)
ISO is 400.
White balance Incandescent.
The light meter won't show up and the shutter is extremely slow. The camera will not allow me to change the f-stop.

The shots are due in the morning so it would be great if someone can please help me.

Added (1). The mode I'm in is Manual.

How to change the shutter speed on my camera?

I have a Nikon N55, and the shutter speed is really slow, so the picture blurs, even if the person only moves a little bit. Do you know how to make it faster? I would experiment, except film is really expensive, and I don't want to waste it.
