Why is my slow motion feature so dark on my nikon 1 j1?
When i switch to the video icon, I can see perfectly clear with great lighting the environment in the viewfinder lcd screen, but when I switch it to slow motion mode it goes widescreen & darkens alot with alot of noise too, i already reset camera settings, but still won't work, I have it set to auto scene selector, I've messed with the M, SP, AP settings and none can improve the quality of the slowmotion feature! D;
Sounds like time to contact Nikon
Sounds more like normal operation to me.
To get slow motion, the camera has to increase the frame rate (fps), which involves faster shutter speeds (or perhaps faster sampling in the case of EVIL cameras), and increased gain (hence the noise) to make up for the decrease in exposure.
Humans and cameras disagree on what constitutes "great lighting". Most anything indoors is considered very dim by camera standards, unless you have high wattage lighting. If you've ever seen slow motion video being shot by professionals (e.g. "Time Warp" on Discovery Channel), they typically have to use a lot of extra light.
You can use video editing software to reduce noise and further increase gain.
Well if you're shooting at 400fps then you're, basically, going to have to have a shutter speed faster than 1/400s, so 1/500s maximum or 1/1000s. If the light is such that you can't take photos at that shutter speed then the video will be dark.
Slow motion video capture requires a lot of light. This is normal.
