Good & professional photo cameras?

I've always had a thing for photography, but have never had a really great photo camera and time for that or modeling. I mean, I have a Nikon 5100, but my photos(especially the portrait ones) don't look like some other polaroids with models that I've seen on the internet for example. What cameras do those photographers use? Or what kind of lenses do they use?

Maybe I just don't know how to properly use it(or the ones who take the pictures of me).Remember that no one can help me, besides the internet, so you, guys. If you know professional photo cameras which take great portraits and if you have any tips or pieces of advice, please write them down.

The most important piece of advice I can give you is this: Cameras don't take great portraits. Photographers do. Let's be clear: it's not the camera. It's the person behind it. Let's hammer the message home: Buying a better camera will not get you better photographs because buying a better camera will not teach you anything about photography.

I simply don't understand your statement that no-one can help you besides the internet. I refuse to believe that you can't get some sort of access to the thousands of books that have been written about photography techniques in general, and portrait photography in particular.

You may want to go to the library and see what kind of books they have on the subject.
It's not the camera, it's you. You can get magazine quality prints with the D5100.

Professional? Nothing professional about entry level cameras…

perhaps you should try a bridge camera until you learn more about photography… DSLR's are expensive to buy and to keep improving…

Personally I love my Canon eos rebel T3 but your camera is just as good. What makes a good photograph is the person behind the camera. Read your manual, figure things out. It also could be you need better lighting. I take the photos for my schools yearbook and I find that a darkened room with a single light to the right towards the ground makes a great shadow on the person and shows off their features well.
