What are the best settings to shoot an indoor basketball game with a Nikon D40?

I might be covering a women's basketball game this weekend for our school newspaper. What are the best settings to get the best out of my photos for this situation?

I use my infrared lens and i get a black picture, why?

Okay, so i recently bought an infrared lens for my nikon d3000 and i wanted to take some pictures and edit them, but every time i focus right, put it back to manual mode on my lens, and try to shoot, i always get a black picture, and i want to know why, and how i can fix it to make it take pictures i want. It's super frustrating because i have watched video tutorials and read how to do it, and i put it at the right exposure and shutter speed, but always get a blank black photo.

Memory card won't work in my Camera?

I've got a slight problem here.
I'm using SanDisk Ultra II SD HC 4 GB memory card and it worked brilliant before. Then, on one lovely day I used the card for music (MP3) files and in my FM transmitter. Unfortunately after that my camera (Nikon D80) refused to recognize the card altough it works perfectly in my laptop and in my FM transmitter: S so I'm a bit confused. I can't "Format memory card" in my camera because it doesn't recognize it! So please. If you can… Help ME!

What equipment is needed to hold up a backdrop and other accessories needed?

I just bought myself the Nikon D7000, with the 18-105 mm lens, the 70-300 mm lens and the 50mm f/1.8.

I also have an external flash. The SB-600 and I would like to take portraits with a black or white backdrop and was wondering everything I would need.

Thanks and an approximate on the price for the backdrops themselves and the supports and lighting

Is the Nikon D90 kit lens (18-105mm) to blame for the F- error?

I'm about to buy my first DSLR and I'm leaning towards the Nikon D90. However, I've seen complaints all over the internet that it develops the "F-- error" rather easily, making it unusable until fixing this problem. Is this error because of the kit lens, or is the camera itself to blame? Also, if the problem is the kit lens and not the camera, which lenses work with the D90 without having this error appear? Any feedback would be great.

Vivitar lens from Nikkormat?

I'm looking at a Vivitar 75-300 zoom lens on Ebay. It was used on a Nikkormat camera, what year I have no idea. I have a Nikon D40 and while I know the zoom won't auto focus or set the aperture, that's no biggie because I did all that stuff by hand for 35 years before I got the D40. Knowing the old Nikon F lenses can't be used on my camera, I'm concerned whether or not the lens mount is the same between the Nikon and Nikkormat. Supposedly the Vivitar lens is AI. If it helps any, the serial number indicates it's an older Kino made lens.

Would lens do you suggest?

I'm going to be purchasing a new lens for my Nikon D90 shortly. I'm in college for digital photography and am looking for a professional lens that I will have for a long time. I was looking at the 80-200mm f/2.8 by Nikon and also the 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 i believe it was.

What are the main differences between those two lenses?
