Speedlight/Flashes for a Nikon D90?

So I've been researching the D90 for a while because I want it for my birthday. The one I'm looking at on the Nikon website includes the lens so that wouldn't be a problem. But should I also ask for the above? I've been in classes where they say it's good to have, but could I turn out shots just as well without out? I'm somewhat of a beginner in that I'm not entirely sure what it does… Enlighten me?

Which dslr would you pick?

I'm in the market for a new dlsr camera and I'm not really sure which one would be best. I'd be shooting a lot of nature photography as well as macro and portrait stuff as well. Also some low light/night photography as well.

I've somewhat narrowed it down to the following:
Canon T2i, Canon T3i, Canon 7D, Canon 60D, Sony A550, and the Nikon D90. I'm also open to other suggestions as well.

Please give your picks and tell me why.

What setting should i have my Nikon d5000 on to use with studio lighting?

I want to use my Nikon D5000 in the studio with flash units. I connect the sync cord to the camera (and flash units) but it doesn't trigger the flash. Could anybody help with what settings i should have my camera on to make it work? Or know of any other reason why it wouldn't doesn't work?

What kind of lens hood should I use?

I have a Nikon D3100 that came with an 18-55 mm lens but no hood. The hood that is compatible (according to the nikon website) with this lens is the solid ring hood HB-45, but I much rather want buy the HB-25 or the HB-28 flower lens hood. Is there a difference between the two types or can I go with the flower one instead?

Thread adapter for Nikon D40?

I bought a Manfrotto 190XDB Tripod for my Nikon D40. I opened it excitedly, only to find out my camera wouldn't fit on the screw part. My friend informed me I need an adapter. Unfortunately, I don't know what adapter to get- I don't even know what size I need. Does any one know what size I need to get my D40 to fit on the tripod securely, or better yet, the actual adapter (I'm on a low budget)?

no flash (other than than one that comes on the camera)

Can someone Please give me a rundown of all my settings I need to get the best quality pictures, I want to go to the concert with some pre-settings… I know I will have to adjust when I'm there, but I would love to have a good foundation before I show up.

I just recently got a Nikon d3100 and want to know what kind of lens to get if I want more zoom. I have the normal lens that it usually comes with but what else can i get if I want to zoom even closer?
