Unable to play. MOV files on Windows Media Player?
I have a Nikon D3100 digital camera that I use to shoot HD video. I don't have an HDMI cable for the thing, so I just pop the memory card out and stick it in my computer. All video files are then stored to my computer as. MOV files. My version of Windows Media Player can't read these files. What should I do, because this is getting really annoying.
Added (1). I don't just want to play the video files, I would like to edit them. I'm a filmmaker, but an admittedly unseasoned one, so yeah, I use Windows Movie Maker. WMM won't read. MOV's. I'm quite comfortable with WMM and don't really want to teach myself how to use a new editing system. If I could just make WMM read. MOV's, that be spiffing.

Hi! I'm planning to buy a new lens for street photography. I have a 35mm 1.8g and seem to spoof my subjects. Should I go for the 50mm 1.8g or the new 40mm f2.8 macro(which was released early this day) or any suggestion would do. Btw, I have a nikon d7000. If possible not so expensive lenses cause i'm on a tight budget.

Do I have a defective Nikon D5100, or is it just my memory card?
I recently got this Nikon D5100 for my birthday. I have been using a SanDisk 4GB and sometimes a 2GB card, you know the little blue ones(I plan on purchasing the correct type). When I first got the camera it let me go up to 1/4000th of a second in shutter speed. Now it doesn't let me go past 1/200th of a second. I also noticed recently when I first tried out continuous shooting it wouldn't let me. I reset the settings and it still hasn't been working. Any Ideas as to what's going on?
Added (1). Thank you! And yeah, I'm new to photography and I'm starting a class in a couple of weeks.

I'm currently using a Sigma macro/zoom lens with my Nikon D40?
And I'm thinking about upgrading my camera to the new D5100. I know that my Nikkor lens will fit the new camera, but will the Sigma fit, too? You would think that if it fit one and the Nikkor fit both, that it would as well, right?

A couple days ago my Nikon D40 was working perfectly, but the other day I noticed the focus ring would not rotate all the way as it should- You can feel the sudden stop. I can't focus on landscapes and moderately far away areas. When I say I have to be really close to focus, I have to be within an approximate 3 foot radius of my subject.
Are there any tips you can give me to fix it? It would be much easier than replacing it. Thank you.
Added (1). I have a 18-55 mm lens. I acquired the camera through a friend in perfect condition, but the D40 model is pretty old.

What's the difference between Vibration Reduction and Non-Vibration Reduction?
On Nikkor lenses for Nikon D3000

I have a nikon d3000 and i want a new, fairly inexpensive lens for it and i need help choosing the right one. I have the 18-55mm lens but i want sharper pictures and id want it to be versatile so it can do more than one thing, specifically one thats good for portraits, landscape, and good in low light.
pictures comparing the different lenses would be nice too.
