Best beginners slr camera? - 1
Hi! I'm looking to buy a slr camera beneath the price £650. I've never owned one before or had anything to do with photography before so I need straight up answers without all the fancy words: What is the best beginners camera in my price range?
Many people have recommended the Canon EOS 550D to me, and about the same amount of people have recommended the Nikon D3100. Because people are recommending different cameras, though, I'm confused.
Also, I've no idea what kind of lens to get. I'd mostly be taking photos of landscapes, but some portraits may occur. XD
Added (1). Also, it's likely that this camera will be one I keep for many, many years, as the £650 is what I've saved up over the course of 4 years for a decent camera.
Added (2). I intend to do a lot of reading before buying a camera, I'd just like to chose a camera first. Makes the idea of photography feel more secure.

How to exit self-timer mode on my Nikon D90?
Do I have to just turn the Nikon off or is there a button I have to press?
Added (1). You know, Jim A, I'm not as stupid as some of the other people, I just don't have the manual with me and I wanted a simple answer. I consider irony/sarcasm an inappropriate approach:/ but thanks, anyway.

Nikon D40-manual mode difficulties?
Alright I have an older D40. Most of the time I shoot in shutter priority, but I'd prefer shooting some things in manual. I only have one command dial--how do I change both shutter speed AND aperture? I spin the dial, and it only lets me change one (I'm pretty sure shutter speed.) What button/menu do I go to so I can change the aperture as well? I've done it with no problem on several other camera bodies, ones with two command dials (D90 and D7000.)

Any creative photo shoot ideas?
I just got a new camera (Nikon D3100), I want to shoot two of my best friends. The problem is that I don't have many ideas for a photo shoot theme. I'm not looking for erotic photos, just normal fun ones.
