Nikon 1 vs The Nikon D3100?

I want a new camera for my birthday. But i can't decide which one i want.i've picked two.tell me wich one you like more and why:]

Both cost the same price. The D3100 is a real camera. I'd choose the D3100.

D3100. The quality of the images will be much better due to the larger sensor, better optics and additional sensors for metering and focusing. The Nikon one is really just a compact camera that has a detachable lens. You also have much easier control over the cameras settings with the D3100.it also has other benefits such as it having a proper viewfinder which means that it does not use loads of power just to show you what the camera is seeing, so you will not have to charge the battery as much.

You will also have more scope for expansion with the D3100, such as adding a flash gun, buying additional lenses (there are far more, and at far better prices for the D3100 than the Nikon 1).

All in all the mirror-less interchangeable lens cameras are just the camera companies trying to dress up compact cameras to make them look like something that is a bit more 'pro'.

If that's what you want, save some money and just buy a compact camera, if you want a propper camera, get the D3100.

That Nikon 1 is an EVIL camera. Electronic View-finding Interchangeable Lenses. These, regardless of what the marketers tell you, are nothing more than glorified, way way over priced pocket toys with interchangeable lenses and no view finder - ugh!
