What kind of camera is best for journalism?

I've just recently gotten into journalism school for news writing, and I'd like to buy a decent camera for school, my career, and for personal use as well.

I've had two cameras before; one was a Nikon Cool Pix and the other was a Canon (I can't remember the type, it's been so long). I liked the Nikon because it was compact, had a relatively quick shutter button, and was simple to use. However, I'd like to get something a little more professional since I plan to use this camera for my job in a couple of years.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? Any advice would be appreciated!

Black pixelation on my images?

I take a picture of a windows in my house, when I review the image of the LCD screen, the space between the blinds show black pixelation that flickers. What I'm doing wrong? Is it the camera settings or the camera itself. It's pretty consistent with the windows.

A good real camera for a beginner of photography?

I've been doing photography for almost a year and I feel like it's time to get a better bigger camera.
I use a Sony Cybershot for pictures which obviously isn't the greatest but it was just a beginning.
I want a real photography camera.
Price range:
$600-$700
I'd either like a Nikon or Canon
Far zooming, video, if possible HD

Canon lens name explanation?

Want to but a canon dslr but i'm confused in usm, usm l. I'm aware of nikon fx dx but have no idea about canon.

I have had a look around and I'm struggling to choose the correct camera.

The list of things I would like for it to have;

High Pixels, preferably around 12 to 16 pixels.
It can be any colour.
Has good feedback from most users.
Preferably good zoom, not fussy.

Good for taking photos of portraits, as a model scout I need a good enough camera that'll take good 'model'est images.

If possible all at a low cost of around £70.

Is 16 MP and 7x optical zoom good?

I'm looking for something that's not too terribly expensive (yes, I know some may run up to three thousand but I'm looking more into the two thousand max range), pretty easy to use, at least 8 mega pixels, and preferably from Canon or NIKON. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for a cheap(ish), good-quality digital SLR camera for personal use and for a photography class. I can't spend any more than $450, and anything cheaper would be appreciated. Oh! And the camera has to have a removable lens. I would prefer a Canon or a Nikon over other brands.
