I'm looking for something that's not too terribly expensive (yes, I know some may run up to three thousand but I'm looking more into the two thousand max range), pretty easy to use, at least 8 mega pixels, and preferably from Canon or NIKON. Any suggestions?

Better be prepared to Learn about shutter speeds, apertures, ISO settings, probably lighting and composition also. To leave your DSLR on auto would be a complete waste of money.
My 2 cents worth, I love my Nikon D90 with 18-200mm lens.

Semi-pro for $2000? Wow!

If you know the basic principles of photography, any dSLR would be easy for you. If not, you have a budget that is enough for 10 easy to use point-and-shoot cameras.

Canon T3i would be one of the best choices for photographers who are searching for an easy-to-use camera which will support them creating their masterpiece.
