Is the Nikon 1 J1 worth it? - 1

Is it worth it? It's the only thing that, when I make it, on my Christmas list that is expensive. My mom knows that I've been looking into nicer cameras like a long the lines of DSLR's and such and I think she might be considering spending the extra to get me a nice camera.

and also; do I need another lens to do macro stuff?

Now my problems would be:

The fact that I'm in utter love with Canons and don't know if I will love my Nikon as I do Canons, even though I now Nikon is a better macro camera.
On Youtube, and on photography blogs I keep getting mixed ideas about it. Some people are not satisfied with the fact that it's not a true blue DSLR (which I don't mind because i'm looking for a nice camera that could segway me into getting a DSLR down the road), and other people just are falling head over heals in love with it.
All I want to know is if you are able to have DSLR like features, as in playing around with manual settings or setting your own focus point, if it takes close to DSLR like quality photos, if it's good in low-light situations (such as the dark.duh) If it's quality doesn't go grainy because the camera is working harder cause you increased something like the ISO. Common questions; I just want to know things about it that make it desirable AND undesirable.

Thinking about getting a new camera. Now, while I'm not a professional photographer, I do like to take good quality photos as it is a hobby of mines.
I'm really torn between 3 cameras:
Leica D-lux 5
Nikon s9100
Canon sx230

Which is best?

Saving pictures from camera - online or on laptop?

I just bought a new camera and it comes with a memory that can store 4000 pictures, its a Nikon camera.

I'm not sure whether I should save my pictures on my laptop or online.

If I save the pictures on my laptop, what happens if one day my laptop dies and I can't get back all the memory on there? Also, it would take up a lot of space on my laptop.

If I save the pictures on a photo saving website, then I can access it on any computer in the world. But what happens if one day the website shuts down and doesn't give enough notice, is that even possible? And if it did give notice, how long would it take to transfer around 8000 pictures online to my laptop?

The current website I use to store pictures is mypicturetown.com, it was given by Nikon and they gave me 2GB worth of space and I just buy more space when I need it. Is it a reliable website? It is Nikon's own.

Can you please suggest a good way of saving my photos, or suggest a reliable website I could use?

Nikon lens error with clicking sound?

I got my camera last christmas and have never had a problem with it until now. I've never dropped it and i always keep it in its case. When i turn it on it works fine and then when i start to zoom in it'll go to a certain point and stop retract back in and say lens error. I turned it on earlier tonight and noticed a mechanical clicking sound.
anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

What is the conversion chart for 35mm SLRs to DSLRs?

So I want to buy this camera:

http://en.nikon.ca/...-1-J1.html

And I asked my mom about it, since she was a professional photographer before. She only worked with 35mm film cameras, so when I showed it to her, she told me it's not a very good lens. I told her the focal and all that changed when they invented DSLRs, but I don't know how much. She told me to get a chart or something that could "convert" the lens to a 35mm film camera (ie like 1:3, 5-5, 6f or 10-30mm to the 35mm equivalent or something)

Also, if it helps the camera will be used mainly for indoor/outdoor video to replace this camera:

It would be helpful to suggest cameras within the same price range if you find that this one is bad!

I really can't decide on a camera?

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding on a dslr camera. I want to keep the price between $400 and $650. I want a camera that has good autofocus and has very quality pictures. Preferably a canon or nikon. I'm kind of new and I don't want to get something and not like it. It's going to be a Christmas present so I don't know if I'll be able to actually go to the store and talk to them about it or whatever. Any suggestions?

Those experienced in photography out there?

Alright, let me make this snappy.
Basically, I'm really interested in photography. I'm thinking of getting something like a NIKON SLR3000 for xmas. However, before i get my SLR I'd like to practise, and all i have is a fujifilm av100 to practise with. I just need your advice. Should I wait until xmas, or should I practise with this av100? Also, how do I practise? What should I focus my shots on? How do I develop my skills?
Feedback please! Would be very helpful.
