Good camera to start with?

I'm currently using a canon powershot S3 IS and it's nice but I have to share it with my mother. While she doesn't use it as much as I do it'd be nice to have my own camera. I've got a fair amount of experience with this camera so I think I might able to handle something more advanced. Any suggestions under $700, preferably either canon or nikon?

Shoud I buy the Sony HX9V?

I've been pondering over this for some time now. I want really good photos which I know the HX9V can give but I don't know whether it'll be really good for HD Videos. I do know that it can record in Full HD 1080p at 50/50p but I don't know whether it is good for long videos. I did consider a camcorder but I don't like its photo quality. I have a Canon MV850i camcorder which is 4-5 yrs old & it shoots quite good videos but it records them on a mini DV but the photos are only ok in good light.
What I really want to know is whether to go for it or should I wait for some more time for something better? I've considered whatever Canon & Nikon have to offer but don't like them much.

Nikon 70-200mm VR II? - 1

This seems a little too goo to be true seeing as I can't find this lens at a similarly low price anywhere & seeing as sellers lose a considerable about of money selling through eBay, this seems really quite cheap.

Added (1). Hi guys, it seems I may have had a drink or two when I posted this.

It was a fixed price or "best offer" on eBay for £1597. The last time I checked my local camera store's website (WarehouseExpress) it was listed for £1700 so I was confused as to why they had it £100 cheaper despite the fact you lose money through eBay with Paypal/listing/final value fees. I have however checked my local store's site again & they have it up for £1600 now so there's obviously been a slight price reduction across the board, at least here in the UK.

Thanks for responding despite the fact I completely forgot to include probably the most vital piece of information to this question! Haha Your support is always appreciated.

I'm looking for a digital camera with quick shutter speed?

I'm wanting to spend about $200 and under. I don't really care about certain brands either. Megapixels arent that important but I would like a decent zoom, at least 5x zoom. I bought the Nikon S3100 almost a year ago, and it's just a horrible camera. It lagged like no other and the pictures were just a mess.

My biggest concern is the time that it takes to go from one pic to the other and a decent price. Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm looking forward to purchasing a camera within a few weeks!

Nikon film SLR shutter won't close?

I was using it fine, and after i put a new roll in and took my first shot the shutter stayed open for about a minute before randomly closing. I tried to make adjustments but this same thing happened a few more times. I wound the film and put it back in thinking it had something to do with that, and then it happened again. I didn't take any pictures for a few minutes, and then it just worked like normal again. Halfway through that roll it happened again, except now it won't shut at all
