How to open a.nid file?
I understand it is a Nikon image file. But what program can i get for free that will open it for me.
At least I need to be able to convert it into a more usable image file type.
Any help is appreciated.
Provided this really is a Nikon data (not image) file, it's Nikon's interpretation of an IPTC metadata file, i.e. Tags that are added to an image (or batch of images) with info about things such as the photographer, captions, copyright etc. As standardized by the IPTC (International Press Communications Council).
These tags make it easier to exchange press material between press agencies (AP, Reuters). Please note that.nid files never contain the actual image itself, only additional data about the image.
If you still want to see what's in the.nid file, you could try the PhotoMe freeware (link below) or Nikon's own software, Nikon capture (which btw is pretty expensive for what it is).
