So my birthday is coming up and i really want to get a nice camera. Are nikon cameras better or are canon cameras better?

I'm interested in buying a more professional camera. One that would blow my little 8.0 mp out of the water but I haven't the slightest clue where to begin. I obviously know the big names like Nikon, Cannon, Sony, Samsung, etc but that's about as far as I know. I'm interested in something capable of capturing natural light shots more than anything. I don't need any fancy filters or pinhole/fish eye effects. I just want something I can take pictures with and use as memories. I have no purpose of using it to promote a business or to sell images. What are the 'technical' names for some of these features.

Best all around camera under $300?
I'm looking for the best camera I can get for under $300… Something that will work great inside and outside, great photo quality. I was looking at the Nikon s9300 and the Canon 320 hs. What do you think about those? Do you know of any better ones?
I have a Nikon J1 and whenever I import a long video file into Sony Vegas (I have 7) the audio just comes up as a line and the clip is a little slow. I changed the settings on the J1 from 1080 to 720 HD but I haven't tried recording yet on that setting… But I was wondering is it the video that's making it act like that in Sony Vegas or is it just Sony Vegas itself? And is there anyway to fix this problem?
Does it matter what kind of batteries u put in a rechargeable battery dock?
I have a energizer battery dock i got it for 20-25 bucks at wall mart it came with four batteries two my sister let some one borrow with out my permission and wasn't able to get them back and they other two got old i guess
its a really nice battery dock but i can't seem to find energizer batteries to go in the dock
does it matter what brand batteries go in the dock? I mainly need them for my Nikon cool pix camera for vaycay. Oh BTW their double A (AA) batteries…

How to restore deleted photos from an SD card?
Earlier, I was going through my pictures on my Nikon S6300, and I was going to delete a picture, but I had accidentally chosen the "Delete All Photos" option and not the the "Delete Selected Image".
I have this camera and I would really love a fish eye camera lens but I don't know where to find one for this type of camera. Can anyone help me out? Could I put a nikon and cannon fish eye lens on this or what?
