Canon 5D Mark 3 or Nikon D800? And why?

I've been searching for a new camera for 6 months and it all comes down to two cameras; the Canon 5D Mark 3 and the Nikon D800. I'm not sure which camera to get and I would like to hear others opinions on why I should get a particular camera

What lens to use for full body potraits in studio?

So I have 3 D FX nikon lenses 24/35/50. I will not be shooting them on my 35mm F5. I want to use the 35mm lens on my D90/D2H. Would that be suitable for a full size potrait? I have converted my living room for the shoot and have muslin backgrounds up and lighting. Also after the muslin I only have another 7-10 feet so I'm not sure if I could use a longer lens. I do have the kit lens 18-105 that came with the d90. Also i'm not using a tripod.

Taking pictures of the stars movement with a Nikon D100?

For a science project at school I need to figure out how to take a really really really long exposure picture of the night sky. My mom told me it was possible with her old nikon D100. I know there's a setting where you can just tape down the button that you take a picture with (sorry I'm not that great with terminology) and leave it for a few hours. I just don't know where it is. I do not expect these pictures to be good… I'm probably going to get either just black or a bunch of clouds or a blur because a car went into my neighbors driveway and blinded the photo. I still have more than a month to figure this out though: D

Which Nikon 300mm f/4?

I'm a D700 shooter and looking to upgrade my telephoto from 180 to 300. There's a AF-S and a AF-D version of the 300 f/4 but there's a $400 gap between them on the used market. Is the AF-S worth the extra cash?

Lenses for the D600 digital camera?

The D600 isn't probably the Nikon messiah we were all waiting for but still, from the specs I believe it will be a significant upgrade from my beloved D300 that with 100k shots is close to the end. From my point of view I would have preferred to pay slightly more and have the 51 AF points (no I don't want the D800) that I will certainly miss from the D300. Anyway, I kit my D300 with a 16-85, 70-300 VR, 50mm 1.4 and 85 1.8. I shoot mainly street, landscape and sometimes portraits, when I travel to Asia.

Now, upgrading from DX to FX I need to replace my 16-85 with a midrange zoom. Probably the best buy for me would be the 24-70 2.8 but it is too pricy. Researching on the net I found that third party 24/28-70 aren't so reliable, the only one that intrigues me is the Tokina 28-70 2.8 second hand for 300 USD to pair with the Tokina 16-28 2.8 to buy new for 739 USD.

My budget is around 1000. The Nikon 28-300 doesn't inspire me much, same as the 24-85 that kits with the D600. Which lenses would you choose if you were going to buy the D600? Any though and recommendation appreciated.
