What settings on my dslr to get this kind of photo?
how do you get this kind of shot? I have a nikon d60 and i want this kind of effect. I know the one who posted this pic doesn't do editing so its all in the cam. Please Help.
Added (1). I know its the aperture but how about the lighting. This was shot somewhere. The photographer used a s peedlight i guess. Is it because of the speedlight. I have one. But what settings should i do to my cam?
Under the lights, sports lens for Nikon D90? Best?
As the question says, I'm looking for the best lens for under the lights in a staidum obviously shooting sports. I will obviously rent it so price isn't really important and I will be directly in the middle, maybe 30-40 feet of shooting space on each side. Is 2.8 fast enough?

Nikon vs Canon vs Pentax (Long-Term Investment)?
I'm getting started in photography this Christmas and as of now have my mind set on the Nikon D3100.
It fits just under my $650 budget and with my Sears/Kmart employee discount it will only cost $585. That leaves room for memory card (s), tripod, and other small things.
But I'm not 100% sure Nikon is going to be best for me long-term. If I like photography as much as I think I'm going to then around my birthday I'm going to upgrade to a nice mid-range dslr probably D7000 or 7D or 60D…
I've heard that Canon has the best selection of mid-range lens' but recent QC hasn't beem the best.
So which brand would you recommend?

I have a nikon d3100 i'm not used to slr cameras, i'm only 15 and i love taking pictures of my friends at the rink and at shows, its hard to get pictures of them doing jumps and spins with the lens that comes with the camera if i don't have a tripod and its not easy where i live to get around the rink with a tripod and find a place to put it i need a lens that i would be able to get the picture WITHOUT a tripod
if you should tell me the name of a lens and maybe a site i could buy it at that would be great

I wanted to get the Nikon d3000 or the Sony - NEX-3. I wanted an SLR but i don't know the difference between these 2. Which camera is better and why? What are the advantages. And is the sony really that many more megapixels than the nikon? Because it says its just a "digital camera" and not an SLR. Please help.
