Under the lights, sports lens for Nikon D90? Best?

As the question says, I'm looking for the best lens for under the lights in a staidum obviously shooting sports. I will obviously rent it so price isn't really important and I will be directly in the middle, maybe 30-40 feet of shooting space on each side. Is 2.8 fast enough?

F/2.8 is plenty fast enough.

I use a 300 mm f/2.8 when shooting night football.

Depending upon the field, I can shoot at either 1/640th or 1/800th second at f/2.8
